Patent number: 7392035Abstract: Consolidated billing in a wireless network is achieved by employing a processing node having storage capabilities for facilitating service creation and/or negotiation, and billing for those services in a wireless network, by associating user information and/or service information with network information. User information, service information, and network information, and their associated billing information, are provided periodically and dynamically into the storage. Using the processing node, user information and/or service information are associated with network information without having to access various network elements located throughout the network, to facilitate service creation and/or negotiation, and billing of services, to thus minimize network processing and network resources.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2001Date of Patent: June 24, 2008Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventors: Mohamed Anisur Rahman, Bruce M. Patent number: 7218630Abstract: A wireless communication system uses a circuit switched link between a wireless unit and a base station to establish a data session with a network device in a packet data network. After the data session is established, the data session can proceed using a packet switched link between the wireless unit and the base station. By using the circuit switched link to send data session setup packets, the system avoids the delay associated with requesting and being allocated wireless resources in sending the setup packets using the packet switched link. Decreasing the delay associated with setting up the data session improves the data rate and throughput between the wireless communications system and the packet data network. For example, in an exemplary CDMA system, a circuit switched link is established to carry primary traffic (such as voice) and secondary traffic.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1999Date of Patent: May 15, 2007Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventor: Mohamed Anisur Rahman

Patent number: 7171199Abstract: A mobile station scans for electromagnetic signals representing control channels of the public wireless system and the private wireless system. The mobile station measures a received signal parameter of at least one of the scanned control channels. The hybrid communications network may transfer the mobile station's service from the public wireless system to the private wireless system, if the measured signal parameter meets or exceeds a private target. Alternately, the hybrid communications system may transfer service from the private wireless system to the public wireless system, if the measured signal parameter meets or exceeds a public target. A service control point maintains a central database of user profiles updated in response to the transferring procedure.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 1999Date of Patent: January 30, 2007Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventor: Mohamed Anisur Rahman

Patent number: 6463292Abstract: A message redirection system includes a data protocol detector for detecting an alert message of a particular protocol received by the mobile station, a user interface manager for displaying user-interactive prompts in response to the detected alert message and accepting user input for redirecting the data message to a communications network element, and an encoder for encoding the user input into a modulating signal compatible with a communications channel.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1999Date of Patent: October 8, 2002Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventor: Mohamed Anisur Rahman

Patent number: 6445916Abstract: A method for evaluating quality of service for billing purposes in a wireless communications system includes establishing a target quality of service level for a subscriber station; expending resources of the wireless communications system at a resource level to maintain the established target quality of service level; measuring the actual quality service level over the measuring interval to characterize the actual quality of service with respect to the target quality of service level as a compliant interval or a non-compliant interval temporally coextensive with the measuring interval.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 1999Date of Patent: September 3, 2002Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventor: Mohamed Anisur Rahman

Patent number: 6434390Abstract: A macrodiversity control system provides a wireless unit with a macrodiversity mode depending on the operating category of the wireless unit. For example, a wireless communications system can have wireless units operating in categories related to the mobility of the wireless unit, such as fixed, limited fixed (mobility within the home cell) and/or fully mobile. For a wireless unit, the macrodiversity mode of the wireless unit can be established depending on the operating category for the wireless unit. Where the wireless unit is fixed and has good reception from a home base station, particularly in regions close to the home base station, macrodiversity for the wireless unit can be restricted. Because the mobility of the wireless unit is restricted in the fixed (or limited fixed) mode, the fading of signals between the home base station and the wireless unit should not be severe, thereby macrodiversity is disabled.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 1999Date of Patent: August 13, 2002Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.Inventor: Mohamed Anisur Rahman

Patent number: 6078817Abstract: A method and system for dynamically increasing the capacity of a code division multiple access (CDMA) radio telecommunications network. The method begins by the radio telecommunications network receiving a request for access to the radio telecommunications network from an entering mobile station. Next, a load capacity monitor determines if the radio telecommunications network is fully loaded. When the radio telecommunications network is fully loaded, a network load processor releases one of a duplicate channel element (transceiver) used in the CDMA radio telecommunications network by one of the operating mobile stations. The network load processor then assigns the released channel element to the entering mobile station. The system includes a load capacity monitor to determine whether the radio telecommunications network is fully loaded. The system also includes a network load processor to reallocate duplicate channel elements from the operating mobile stations to the entering mobile station.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1997Date of Patent: June 20, 2000Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM EricssonInventor: Mohamed Anisur Rahman

Patent number: 6061556Abstract: A method and system for charging secondary traffic in a radio telecommunications network. The system includes a mobile switching center (MSC) for delivering a call in the radio telecommunications network and a radio network control Ler (RNC) for controlling the radio telecommunications network. The MSC includes a charging unit for calculating a primary traffic charge, a secondary traffic charge, and a total charge for a call. Additionally, the RNC employs frame structure counters to assess the amount of secondary traffic carried in the call. The method begins by the frame structure counters assessing an amount of secondary traffic carried in a call in the radio telecommunications network. The charging unit then calculates a charge for the secondary traffic carried by the call.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1997Date of Patent: May 9, 2000Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventor: Mohamed Anisur Rahman

Patent number: 5933777Abstract: A method and system for allocating channel elements in a code division multiple access (CDMA) radio telecommunications network is disclosed. The method begins by a contribution assessor determining a candidate set of base stations having sufficient signal strength with the entering mobile station to establish a voice channel. Next, the contribution assessor measures the signal strength between each base station of the candidate set of base stations and the operating mobile stations served by each of the base stations. The contribution assessor determines which base station of the candidate set of base stations has the weakest signal strength with one of its served operating mobile stations. Then, a load processor reallocates a channel element away from the mobile station having the weakest signal strength to the entering mobile station.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1997Date of Patent: August 3, 1999Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventor: Mohamed Anisur Rahman
