  • Publication number: 20050200153
Abstract: A wind-shielding device for motorcycles, particularly for modern sport-style motorcycles commonly termed, “sportbikes”. The device affords operators of sportbikes a means to enjoy motorcycling during winter months or any other time when the outdoor temperature is below that generally considered ideal for motorcycling, as typical of early spring and late fall, without enduring direct exposure to frigid on-coming air. The device conforms to and fits over a sportbike's factory-installed (original equipment) fairing and vastly improves wind protection. The present invention can be fabricated of an inexpensive and sufficiently rigid acrylic, polycarbonate, fiberglass, or other suitable material using common molding techniques. The device also protects the motorcycle's original equipment fairing and painted surfaces from potentially damaging stones and other airborne road debris.

  • Patent number: 6944318
Abstract: Systems and methods for personal identification, preferably based on iris identification, include a camera for acquiring a presented image of a presented individual and a computer device for converting the presented image into a presented image metric. The computer device also compares the presented image metric to a predetermined arrangement of a plurality of reference image metrics of known individuals to identify the presented individual as one of the known individuals. The presented image metric and the plurality of reference metrics are both formatted to represent detailed physical characteristics of the individuals, including iris characteristics and other physical characteristics. Further, the plurality of reference image metrics may also be formatted to represent user-defined characteristics, which include non-image-related characteristics. The predetermined arrangement of the plurality of reference image metrics are ordered to provide a fast match with the presented image metric.

  • Publication number: 20050149898
Abstract: A method of managing the configuration, design parameters, and functionality of an integrated circuit (IC) design using a hardware description language (HDL). Instructions can be added, subtracted, or generated by the designer interactively during the design process, and customized HDL descriptions of the IC design are generated through the use of scripts based on the user-edited instruction set and inputs. The customized HDL description can then be used as the basis for generating “makefiles” for purposes of simulation and/or logic level synthesis. The method further affords the ability to generate an HDL model of a complete device, such as a microprocessor or DSP. A computer program implementing the aforementioned method and a hardware system for running the computer program are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20050078732
Abstract: A device for measuring the flux received by a specimen in fire test apparatuses has a copper disk or plate of the same dimensions and the same type of surface coating as a typical material specimen, an embedded heating coil and thermocouple, and an insulated sample holder similar to that used for a specimen. The transient response of the embedded thermocouple is measured for several different levels of imposed incident radiation without electrical heating and for several different known levels of electrical heating without any imposed radiation. The principle of Electrical Substitution Radiometry (ESR) is applied, and the transient responses to incident radiation and electrical heating under identical thermal conditions are compared to determine the amount of incident radiation that is actually absorbed by the device while it is being irradiated. The situations are kept thermally identical, thereby insuring that all effects due to heat losses (e.g. convection, radiation and conduction) are exactly the same.
