  • Patent number: 6744573
Abstract: Element fixing mounting portions are formed in the shape of bridge beams on both the side surfaces or the like of the first optical surface, which is disposed in confrontation with an image display element, of a Free-Form-Surface prism 61 acting as an optical element, the side surfaces being located externally of the effective light beam range of the first optical surface. Then, the optical element can be mounted on a cabinet making effective use of a space by projecting positioning bosses or the like from the mounting portions, the bosses being used when optical element is mounted on the cabinet.

  • Publication number: 20020158813
Abstract: The pixel number of an image display is increased through the optical shift of the positions of the pixels of the image display, that is, pixel shift. Therefore, a high resolution image can be observed using a low cost image display with a relatively few pixel number.

  • Patent number: 6400341
Abstract: A head-mounted picture display device which includes a picture display system and front and back covers. The picture display system includes LCDs for displaying pictures and prisms for introducing the pictures to the observer's eyes. The front and back covers are designed to accommodate the picture display system and are formed by molding with dies so as to be separated from each other in a predetermined direction. The back cover has surfaces tilted substantially along the emission surfaces of the prisms. The surfaces each have a substantially rectangular aperture. Transparent plates are press-fitted in the apertures. The transparent plates are held in a position at an angle relative to a vertical axis and a transversal axis of the housing body.

  • Patent number: 6335711
Abstract: A main unit of an HMD that is a head-mounted picture display device of the present invention can be mounted on the observer's head. The main unit has a front cover and back cover constituting a housing body that accommodates LCDs serving as picture display members, and prisms. The front cover and back cover are unitedly secured by inserting headed screws from the back cover with projections fitted into inner circumferential parts. The front cover has two surfaces lying along lines inclined upward and downward from apices toward the back cover. The main unit is retained at a viewable position, located closely to or in contact with the observer's head, in front of observer's eyes. The adoption of this shape of the housing body permits a lightweight design of the main unit and enables long-term use thereof.

  • Patent number: 5812224
Abstract: It is the object of the invention to provide a compact and highly stable head-mount image display apparatus capable of always transmitting voice information of an optimal volume, irrespective of the positional relationship between the head and the ear of an observer, which is related to the shape and/or size of the head. To attain the object, speakers incorporated in the apparatus of the invention can be moved to desired positions in accordance with changes in the positional relationship between the head and the ears of observers. Further, the apparatus of the invention can be folded to reduce the area the apparatus occupies.
