  • Patent number: 9672870
Abstract: An electrical feed-through, such as a PCB connector, involves a connector part that includes a housing from which first and second positioning flanges extend from opposing ends. A data storage device includes an enclosure base with which the electrical feed-through is coupled, where the base comprises an annular recessed surface surrounding an aperture that is encompassed by the electrical feed-through, and first and second recessed positioning surfaces extending in directions outward from respective longitudinal ends of the annular recessed surface, where each of the recessed positioning surfaces has a corresponding wall extending vertically therefrom. When assembled, each positioning flange of the electrical feed-through mechanically mates with a corresponding recessed positioning surface of the base, such that the position of the electrical feed-through is constrained by the walls of each recessed positioning surface.

  • Publication number: 20150015995
Abstract: Approaches to maintaining hard disk drive spindle motor rigidity and performance in low profile HDD devices comprise using an enclosure base with a bottom opening in which a separate motor cup is fitted and configured to support the spindle motor. The motor cup may then be fabricated using a different material than the enclosure base, such as a material having a higher modulus of elasticity than that of the base. Furthermore, a magnetic motor cup may be used to substitute for the thrust yoke typically used with conventional spindle motors.
