  • Patent number: 5843145
Abstract: A three component temperature pack, such as for use in a therapeutic hot/cold wrap applied to a human or animal, includes an outer casing, a gel contained within the casing, and one or more temperature cells contained within the casing with the gel. The gel provides heating or cooling after being charged by an external heating or cooling source, and yet it remains soft and flexible so that the pack is comfortable to a user. The one or more temperature cells provides heating or cooling to the gel even after the external heating or cooling source is removed, whereby the temperature pack provides prolonged heating or cooling. A method of manufacture provides for sequential controlled combining of three constituents of which a preferred gel is comprised, and it also provides for this in conjunction with filling and sealing the outer casing.

  • Patent number: 5741220
Abstract: A brace for a joint, such as a knee, is used with an underlying pad that extends continuously under the entire length of the brace. In use, the brace is secured to the pad such that a proximal portion of the brace engages an underlying proximal portion of the pad and such that a distal portion of the brace engages an underlying distal portion of the pad. A pouch with the pad removably receives one or more temperature packs to provide heat or cold therapy to the joint. The resulting assembly is such that access to the temperature pack(s) is available without removing either the brace or the pad from either the joint or the limb where the joint is. The pad forms part of a convertible therapeutic wrap which also includes indicia designating where the pad is to be cut to provide the pouch as a separate, smaller therapeutic wrap when the overall pad is not needed.

  • Patent number: 5697962
Abstract: A therapeutic wrap that can be releasably connected to a body has one or more chambers for holding one or more discrete hot or cold members. Openings into the chambers and connectors for holding the wrap to the body are provided so that the hot or cold member(s) can be accessed in the chamber(s) without substantially moving the wrap relative to the body to which it is connected.
