  • Patent number: 5413050
Abstract: A pattern controller has a disc-like adjuster which can be snugly fitted in a case and a plurality of stays which integrally project in the axial direction from the adjuster. The adjuster is provided with a tapered surface adjacent to the stays to define a guide surface for shot and a center hole through which shot passes. The stays are inserted in the shot charged in the case, so that the adjuster surrounds the shot. The case is crimped to complete a shotshell. The pattern controller provides a concentrated-type shotshell or a scatter-type shotshell. When the shotshell is fired from a skeet choked barrel or an improved cylinder barrel, a remarkably concentrated or scattered pattern can be obtained. A ultra scattering type of pattern controller which has no center hole is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5299502
Abstract: A container of shot for a shotshell includes a container body comprised of a non-slit tube and a disc integral therewith and in contact with a wad. The disc is coaxial to the non-slit tube. The disc and the non-slit tube have a diameter slightly smaller than a bore of an associated shotgun. The container has an open hollow portion defined by an inner peripheral surface of the non-slit tube and an end face of the disc, and further includes a retarder provided in the container body to retard the separation of the shot pellets from the container. The container can be advantageously used with a shotshell having steel shot pellets charged therein.

  • Patent number: 4825767
Abstract: A wad for shotgun shotshell having front and rear discs having a radius substantially identical to a radius of a barrel bore of an associated shotgun, and a connector arranged between and interconnecting the front and rear discs, the connector including two identical connector elements formed by bending circular plates having a radius substantially identical to the radius of the front and rear discs. Each of the connector elements has a planar central portion, two planar outer portions on the opposite sides of the central portion, and two outwardly inclined portions between the central portion and the respective outer portions, to connect the central portion to the respective outer portions. The central portion, the inclined portions and the outer portions of each connector element have circular peripheral surfaces having a curvature radius identical to the radius of the front and rear discs.

  • Patent number: 4779535
Abstract: A slug assembly for a shotgun shotshell having a case in which the slug assembly is incorporated, comprising a metal slug having a center axial cavity, an elastically deformable stabilizer which is fitted in the cavity, and a filler which is charged in the cavity. The stabilizer has a plunger having a diameter larger than a diameter of the opening of the cavity of the slug and an annular flange having a diameter substantially identical to a diameter of a barrel bore of a shotgun in which the slug assembly is to be used. The plunger and annular flange are coaxial to each other. The plunger cooperates with the cavity of the slug to maintain a distance between a rear end face of the slug and a front end face of the annular flange of the stabilizer at a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 4676169
Abstract: A slug assembly for a shotgun shotshell, having a slug which has a circular largest diameter portion, and which has at least one cylindroid portion consisting of inclined generatrices, a sleeve like spacer made of a plurality of split spacer elements coaxially surrounding the slug. The spacer has inner portions which come into close contact with the cylindroid portion of the slug. The slug assembly also has a disc like stabilizer between the wad and the slug, connected to the slug by means of male and female connectors. A front surface of the stabilizer comes into close contact with the rear end of the spacer.

  • Patent number: 4669385
Abstract: A wad for a shotgun shotshell with a crimped case, comprising a seal member located adjacent to a propellant in the case and a rotor opposed to the seal member. The seal member and the rotor are interconnected for relative sliding and rotation and have opposed end faces. The seal member has at least one explosion gas passage hole. The rotor has, on the end face opposed to the seal member, gas jet grooves which are spaced from the axis and which extend in a predetermined direction to be connected to the outer periphery of the rotor and to the hole of the seal member. The rotor has blades or male-female connectors for transmitting the rotation of the rotor to a projectile in the case.

  • Patent number: 4452144
Abstract: A wad which is adapted to be located in a case of a shotgun cartridge containing gunpowder, comprising a cylindrical wad body having an axial center hole and axial explosive gas passages, and a disc plate which has a plunger fitted in the center hole of the wad body and which has blades connected thereto to carry a mass of pellets and to transmit a rotational motion of the wad to the pellets, said wad body and disc plate defining therebetween explosive gas passages extending in directions perpendicular to the axis of the cylindrical body, so as to rotate the wad about the axis of the cylindrical body by the explosive gas, which is produced by the explosion of the gunpowder when the wad body comes into contact with the disc plate under explosive pressure.
