    Abstract: A microphone (100) and method of manufacture thereof is disclosed. The microphone (100) includes a housing (108), a diaphragm assembly (120), a spacer (134), a backplate assembly (140), a body assembly (150), and a printed circuit board (164) disposed within the housing (100). The diaphragm assembly (120) and the backplate assembly (140) constitute a variable capacitor responsive to sound pressure level changes coupled through an acoustic port (118). The base capacitance is inversely proportional to the thickness of the spacer (134). The backplate assembly (140) is disk shaped with protrusions and coupled to the body assembly (150) such that an acoustic passage (172) is formed between an outer edge of the backplate assembly (140) and an inner periphery of the hollow body assembly (150). The body assembly (150) comprises conductive mount (158) for electrically coupling the backplate assembly (140) to a first surface (166) of a circuit board (164).

    Abstract: A method (400) and an apparatus for AVC intra prediction to code digital video comprising a plurality of pictures are disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: generating (410) edge directional information for each intra block of a digital picture; and choosing (420) most probable intra prediction modes for rate distortion optimisation dependent upon the generated edge directional information. The edge directional information may be generated by applying at least one edge operator to the digital picture. The edge direction histogram may sum up the amplitudes of pixels with similar 15 directions in the block. The method may further comprise the step of intra coding (430) a block of the digital picture using the chosen most probable intra prediction modes.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a multiparty network communication system, which is constructed by connecting system users in serial. Various types of information are packed and encoded according to protocol into information packets. When information packets are transmitted within the network, the receiving party distinguishes them according to the coding to be voice or data information and forwards them to various modules at user's end for further processing. Voice information is processed by virtue of the superimposing technology that mixes the receiving information with the voice information received at user's end and forwards to other adjoining users. A multiparty voice communication is then realized. Moreover, the present invention provides methods of manipulating user's system failure so in case one user system among conference participants fails, his neighboring users will be automatically connected to allow other participants to continue the multiparty network conferencing.
