  • Patent number: 4434796
Abstract: The staple has two legs interconnected through a web. Each of the legs carries a rod having a pointed bottom end and a head. The head has a slot for the web to pass. A through hole or passage is made in the rod, which is open at the slot in the head and at the side rod surface. The rigidity of the leg decreases from the zone of interconnection with the web towards the leg end. A method of and forceps for removal of such a surgical staple are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4355751
Abstract: Described herein is a surgical instrument for suturing cutaneous tissue, especially scar tissue, when stitching on skin grafts, said instrument comprising a supporting body and a staple body which are hinged to each other so as to be capable of being brought together or apart. A staple magazine is provided on the staple body of the instrument, and an ejector is provided for driving the staples from the staple body into the stitching unit. The stitching unit incorporates a single needle-shaped die with an L-shaped needle, said needle being mounted on the supporting body, and a slot formed at the end of the staple body through which the die needle passes when suturing. The needle-shaped die has two recesses, one of which communicates with the magazine through the groove provided in the supporting body, while the other of which, upon bringing the instrument bodies together, is located against a special groove in the staple body, communicating with the staple magazine and with the base of the slot.

  • Patent number: 4316469
Abstract: A surgical apparatus for suturing soft tissues with lengths of suturing material with spicules comprises at least one hollow needle, mounted in the apparatus body, with a bore to accommodate a length of suturing material, introduced into the tissue to be sutured together with the needle, as well as a stop situated inside the needle bore. The needle in adapted to move longitudinally over the stop so as to retain the length of suturing material in the tissue being sutured while the needle is being withdrawn therefrom, and provided with an actuator to impart the longitudinal movement thereto.

  • Patent number: 4286598
Abstract: A forceps for isolation of a part of a blood vessel during anastomosis comprises hinged levers and an automatic lock to hold the levers in the closed position. There are rings at one end of each lever, by which the forceps is held. The other ends of the levers bear jaws arranged at an angle toward the levers. One jaw has a longitudinal groove open on the side facing the opposite jaw, while the other jaw is made in the form of a ridge whose width is the same as that of the groove so that the ridge enters the groove as the jaws are pulled together. Each jaw has a removable part that does not extend to the jaw ends. This invention can advantageously be used to divide a part of a vessel into two parts along its longitudinal axis during anastomosis with mechanical suturing or ligation.

  • Patent number: 4244372
Abstract: The instrument comprises a supporting part and a staple-receiving part connected pivotally to each other, their working ends carrying opposing longitudinal jaws. The longitudinal jaw of said staple-receiving part accommodates staple magazines. Made in said staple magazines in opposition to the staple-clinching indentations of the longitudinal jaw of the supporting part are transverse slots adapted to accommodate the members for driving said staples and said staples, and longitudinal slots adapted to accommodate bars with wedge-shaped ends facing said staple-driving members, adapted for cooperation with said staple-driving members, to drive out and insert said staples. The longitudinal slot of said staple-receiving part movably accommodates a knife blade movable jointly with said bars.

  • Patent number: 4204541
Abstract: A surgical instrument for stitching up soft tissues with lengths of spiked suture material comprises a hollow body which houses a tubular needle having a through bore adapted to accommodate said length of suture material to be introduced into the tissue being sutured along with the needle, and a stop stationary with respect to the body and accommodated inside the through bore of the needle. Both the needle and the stop are shaped as coils having the same diameter and lead, and the needle is mounted slidably along the stop so as to retain the length of suture material in the tissue being sutured while extracting the needle therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4122989
Abstract: A surgical instrument for suturing tissue with metal staples includes an anvil unit which has two elongated jaws aligned with each other and having inner surfaces facing each other and formed with longitudinal guiding grooves for a staple. The front ends of the jaws carry anvils for bending the tips of the staples, said anvils being shaped as curved needles, having tips facing each other and formed with longitudinal grooves which are extensions of said guiding grooves of the jaws. The jaws can be releasably connected to each other in a position in which the longitudinal grooves of the jaws are approximately parallel to each other. A detachable staple-driving unit has a frame mounted on the jaws, provided with grooves for a staple and a staple driving member with a lever for operating the same.
