  • Patent number: 11672846
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to methods of treating or preventing a biofilm-related infection and methods of preventing and treating biofilm formation on indwelling medical devices, implants, and non-medical surfaces comprising administering at least one soluble microbial protein that is encoded by an exopolysaccharide biosynthetic operon or functional gene cluster, wherein the protein comprises a glycosyl hydrolase domain. The present disclosure further provides particular soluble glycosyl hydrolases and compositions thereof.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 18, 2020
Date of Patent: June 13, 2023
Assignees: The Hospital for Sick Children, The Royal Institution for the Advancement of Learning/McGill University
Inventors: Lynne P. Howell, Perrin Baker, Noor Alnabelseya, Natalie Bamford, Dustin Little, Donald Sheppard, Brendan Snarr, Mark Jae Lee
  • Publication number: 20220017945
Abstract: Disclosed herein are novel methods and compositions for rapidly extracting and amplifying nucleic acids from a sample where the sample is combined with an extraction reagent comprising a reducing agent to form a mixture and incubating said mixture at ambient temperature for a period of time not exceeding 30 minutes to generate a nucleic acid extract. In certain embodiments of the method, the nucleic acid extract is subjected to a nucleic acid amplification reaction. In certain aspects, oligonucleotide primers specific for nucleic acids of Chlamydia species and/or Neisseria species are added prior to initiating the amplification reaction.
    Type: Application
    Filed: July 13, 2021
    Publication date: January 20, 2022
