  • Patent number: 6505593
Abstract: A valve moving apparatus of an internal combustion engine comprises an engine valve, a valve spring, a spring seat supporting an end of the valve spring and a cam driving the engine valve to open. A valve spring set load changing device in the valve moving apparatus comprises the spring seat including a base seat and a support seat movable relatively to the base seat, an actuator generating drive force in accordance with an operational condition of the engine and a manipulating mechanism transmitting the drive force to the support seat. The actuator and the manipulating mechanism are positioned outside of the spring seat. When the support seat is rotated by a predetermined amount by the drive force transmitted through the manipulating mechanism, the support seat moves also in direction of expansion and contraction of the valve spring to change set load of the valve spring.

  • Patent number: 6425359
Abstract: A valve moving apparatus of an internal combustion engine has an intake camshaft with an intake variable cam piece for opening and closing an intake valve, and an exhaust camshaft with an exhaust variable cam piece for opening and closing an exhaust valve. Each variable cam piece has a low speed cam section and a high speed cam section and is movable axially relatively to the camshaft. A hydraulic driving mechanism is provided for moving the variable cam piece axially in accordance with engine operation condition. The driving mechanism has a driving piston and arms touching both sides of the variable cam piece. When valve operating characteristic of the intake valve or the exhaust valve is changed corresponding to engine operation condition, response is improved. The engine can be miniaturized.

  • Patent number: 6279554
Abstract: In an engine crankcase ventilation system, a blowby gas passage and a fresh air passage are defined between adjoining crankcase members so as to extend in parallel with a crankshaft axial line along either side of a lower part of said crankcase assembly. Because the crankcase is configured to receive the rotating crankshaft provided with counterweights, it necessarily has a circular cross section. Therefore, this arrangement allows effective utilization of the available space. Thus, a cavity of a required volume for effective oil separation and pressure pulsation damping can be formed in the engine main body without increasing the number of components parts, and without complicating or increasing the size of the overall structure.

  • Patent number: 5987973
Abstract: On the upper portion of a cylinder head 1 of an engine mounted on a vehicle body in such a way that a crankshaft faces in the lateral direction of the body, a head cover 36 is supported in a floating state through an elastic member 14 and a rubber bush 52. A pair of TDC sensors 37i and 37e for detecting the rotational positions of engine camshafts 6i and 6e, are attached from the outside to the front surface and to the rear portion of the upper surface of the head cover 36 with bolts 38 respectively in such a way as not to interfere with a bonnet 39 of the body descending forward. Consequently, while ensuring the maintainability of the TDC sensors 37i and 37e of the engine, the TDC sensors 37i and 37e can compactly be attached to the engine.

  • Patent number: 5948973
Abstract: A first thrust limiting member and a second thrust limiting member are provided on a cam shaft rotatably carried between a lower cam shaft holder and an upper cam shaft holder which are fixed to an upper surface of a cylinder head 1, so that the first and second thrust limiting members and abut against the cam shaft holders 9.sub.5 and 10.sub.5. The second thrust limiting member has a plurality of detected projections provided around of an outer periphery thereof, so that the detected projections are detected by a TDC sensor 37 mounted to a head cover of the engine. Thus, the rotated position (phase), the angle of rotation and the number of rotations of an rotary shaft of an engine such as a cam shaft 6e and a crankshaft can be detected with good accuracy in a structure including a decreased number of parts, and the axial dimension of the rotary shaft of the engine can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 5495832
Abstract: An internal combustion engine intake valve operating mechanism for two intake valves having a separate driving rocker arm for each valve and two free rocker arms not connected to the intake valves. In a low-speed operating range, the driving rocker arms are in their disconnecting states from the free rocker arms, so that both intake valves are opened and closed by a second cam and a fourth cam. In a medium-speed operating range, the first free rocker arm and the first driving rocker arm are interconnected, so that one of the intake valves is opened and closed by a first cam and the other intake valve continues to be opened and closed by the fourth cam. In a high-speed operating range, the first driving rocker arm, the second free rocker arm and the second driving rocker arm are connected to one another, so that both the intake valves are opened and closed by a third cam.

  • Patent number: 4820186
Abstract: An IC card connector is provided which comprises a fixed frame, electrode pieces attached to the fixed frame so as to form contact portions, a moving frame having a holding portion in which the IC card is inserted and held and a window from which each of the electrode terminals of the IC card is exposed when the IC card is inserted into the holding portion, and a support mechanism for supporting the moving frame on the fixed frame. The support mechanism acts to allow the moving frame to rotate between a first position, at which each of the electrode terminals of the IC card inserted into the holding portion of the moving frame is brought into contact with the contact portions of each of the electrode pieces through the window of the moving frame, and a second position, at which the contact between each of the electrode terminals and the contact portion of each of the electrode pieces is broken by the rotation of the moving frame to a position which is at a certain angle with respect to the fixed frame.

  • Patent number: 4798946
Abstract: A plastic package for an IC card comprises a first package section and a section package section, both of which have a flat base and a rim which extends around the periphery of the base and projects therefrom. A groove is formed in the rim of the first package section, and a projection which fits into the groove is formed in the rim of the second package section. A bonding agent is applied to the inside of the groove, and the two package sections are combined with the top surfaces of the rims abutting and the projection inserted into the groove. In one form of the invention, the groove is preferably larger than the projection by an amount sufficient to prevent bonding agent from being forced out of the groove. In another form of the invention, grooves for storing bonding agent which overflows from the grooves are formed in the top surface of one of the rims on either side of the groove and projection.

  • Patent number: 4773361
Abstract: An OHC type internal combustion engine with four valves per cylinder in which a single cam shaft extending longitudinally is engaged by individual rocker arms for each valve for pivoting those rocker arms to actuate the valves. The pairs of exhaust valves on one side of the engine are actuated by rocker arms mounted on a continuous rocker arm shaft. The intake valve rocker arms are mounted on a plurality of short shafts supported by their ends. A cam shaft holder is positioned over each cylinder and they serve to rotatably support the cam shaft, support the continuous rocker arm shaft, support the ends of the plural rocker arm short shafts, and to permit access to the spark plug for that cylinder. The spark plug has its electrodes located at the center of the combustion chamber and is inclined outwardly for access from between the intake valve rocker arms for that cylinder.
