Patent number: 10532236Abstract: A fire protection method includes providing a plurality of pendent control mode specific application extended coverage fire protection sprinklers as components of a fire protection sprinkler system for a storage area defined by a storage height of at least 25 feet and a building height of at least 30 feet. Each sprinkler has a thermally responsive element, a deflector, and a K-factor of at least 25.2 gpm/(psi)1/2, and is connected to a piping network at a height greater than the storage height. When each sprinkler is activated, a fluid is supplied to the sprinkler from the piping network at a pressure of at least 30 pounds per square inch, and is delivered to a coverage area of greater than 110 and up to and including 196 square feet per sprinkler. A design operating area of the sprinkler system is up to six sprinklers or 1200 square feet.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2009Date of Patent: January 14, 2020Assignee: The Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Co., Inc.Inventor: Oliver S. Patent number: 10143873Abstract: A fire protection sprinkler includes a body having an inlet end, including a threaded base configured to connect to a fluid supply conduit, an outlet end, and a water passage defined therein. The water passage includes an inlet orifice, provided at the inlet end of the body, an output orifice, provided at the outlet end of the body, and an interior surface formed of a material having a weighted average lead content of 0.25% or less. A seal cap, that moves between a closed position, in which the seal cap seals the output orifice of the water passage, and thereby prevents flow of a fluid from the fluid supply conduit through the output orifice, and an open position, in which the seal cap does not seal the output orifice of the water passage, has water-exposed surfaces formed of a material having a weighted average lead content of 0.25% or less.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2011Date of Patent: December 4, 2018Assignee: The Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Co., Inc.Inventors: Oliver S. Patent number: 9248327Abstract: A horizontal sidewall fire protection sprinkler has a deflector having a vertical face, transverse to the fluid flow from the output orifice, and a horizontal shelf positioned above and perpendicular to the vertical face. A portion of the horizontal shelf extends in the fluid flow direction by a first length, with respect to the vertical face, and this first length is less than about half of the total length of the horizontal shelf in the fluid flow direction. The sprinkler may be installed in a support cup having a raised mounting platform configured to receive the sprinkler body and a cylindrical outer surface. A horizontal or pendent fire protection sprinkler has a body having an output orifice and a flange and a seal cap to seal a flow of fluid from the output orifice and a thermally-responsive element positioned to releasably retain the seal cap. Housing members extend through and from the flange of the sprinkler body, and contain rods, each of which extends through the flange.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2013Date of Patent: February 2, 2016Assignee: THE RELIABLE AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER COMPANYInventors: George S. Publication number: 20130319697Abstract: a fire-prevention sprinkler that can be used with a dual-use or multipurpose supply may have a sprinkler body, an inlet to admit water into the sprinkler body and an outlet by which the water can exit the sprinkler body upon actuation of the sprinkler, as well as a deflector to direct the water in a desired pattern as the water exits the sprinkler outlet, and an actuation device, that opens at least the sprinkler outlet upon detection of a fire condition. The entire inner surface of the water passage is made of a material such as will protect the water in the sprinkler from absorbing potentially harmful substances, including as one example lead. The entire sprinkler body may be made of that same substance, as well, and the seal(s) may be made of the same material, or of another having the mentioned property. Such materials are preferably metals, but may be plastic or vitreous.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 15, 2011Publication date: December 5, 2013Applicant: THE RELIABLE AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER CO., INC.Inventors: Oliver S.
