Abstract: The data storage media comprises, in a preferred embodiment, a homogenous or non-homogenous plastic substrate that can be formed in situ with the desired surface features disposed thereon on one or both sides, a data storage layer such as a magneto-optic material also on one or both sides, and an optional protective, dielectric, and/or reflective layers. The substrate can have a substantially homogenous, tapered, concave, or convex geometry, with various types and geometries of reinforcement employed to increase stiffness without adversely effecting surface integrity and smoothness.

Abstract: A crystalline resin molded article with a non-uniform appearance, or a process for making such an article, comprising a molded blend of a granular crystalline resin base resin and a granular crystalline resin colored concentrate which has contrasting color properties. The granular color concentrate comprising a crystalline resin carrier resin having a melting temperature sufficiently higher than the base resin for non-uniformly dispersing the granular color concentrate into the base resin during molding to produce a non-uniform appearance in said molded article.

Abstract: The disclosure is of a process for recovering valuable by-products of the condensation of phenol and a ketone from a mother liquor obtained for example upon crystallization of a 1:1 adduct of phenol and bisphenol, said mother liquor containing phenol, bisphenol, isomers, contaminant by-products of the condensation reaction of phenol with the ketone and acidic impurities. The mother liquor is distilled/evaporated leaving a tarry residue, which is the feedstock for the process of the invention. The recovery comprises heating the feedstock with proportions of an arylamine salt, to extract the bisphenol-A values as aminophenylhydroxylphenyl-alkanes.

The invention also relates to the novel polyoxyalkylene amine and alkylamidepolyoxyalkylene carboxylates prepared by the process.
