  • Patent number: 5000265
Abstract: A packing assembly which is connectable to reeled tubing and which can be inserted in and pushed through a wellbore tube by the reeled tubing. The packing assembly is hydraulically set in a locking and sealing position in the wellbore by fluid introduced from the reeled tubing and, after use, is hydraulically released and removed from the wellbore. An actuating apparatus is provided for hydraulically actuating the packing assembly and can be converted in a manner to pull the packing assembly from the wellbore. Prior to the removal of the packing assembly from the wellbore, the wellbore fluid pressure is equalized across the packing assembly.

  • Patent number: 4844154
Abstract: A well packer for sealing an annular space within a well bore around a tubing string including a tubular mandrel, an expandable seal assembly on the mandrel for sealing around the mandrel with a well bore wall, a slip assembly on the mandrel for releasably locking the packer with the well bore wall, a drag spring and slip carrier assembly around the slip assembly, and an interlock assembly for selectively coupling the drag spring and slip carrier assembly with the mandrel for operating the packer through running, set, and release modes. The packer also includes an emergency release feature for releasing the packer in the event that well obstructions or other problems prevent normal rotation of the tubing string and mandrel to operate the interlock assembly.

  • Patent number: 4834175
Abstract: A hydraulic well packer for releasable setting within a well casing is disclosed. The packer includes a hydraulic actuator assembly mounted between annular packing seal elements and anchor slips, with the seal elements, hydraulic actuator assembly and anchor slips being mounted for sliding movement along the packer mandrel. Premature retraction of the setting cylinder relative to the piston is prevented by interlocking action of a shear screw lock and a transfer lug against the piston, setting cylinder and a tubular setting wedge. The piston is locked against the anchor slips and the slip housing so that seals mounted on the piston head which engage the mandrel and the setting cylinder cannot be dragged and worn out prematurely in response to hydraulic pressure fluctuations imposed after the packer has been set and sealed. The setting piston and setting cylinder are locked together during run-in by the shear screw and by interlocking engagement of the transfer lug.

  • Patent number: 4378838
Abstract: An improved pipe wiper and cup therefor having at least one cup-like wiper lip which is strengthened by a plurality of radial webs which tend to keep the wiper lip from turning wrong side out, the wiper lip also having a plurality of external annular ridges whose diameters correspond to conventional pipe sizes so that the lip can be trimmed to proper size before use leaving an external ridge on the outer edge of the lip to enhance the wiping efficiency of the lip.

  • Patent number: 4311194
Abstract: A delayed action hydraulic well liner hanger and running tool for running, setting, and anchoring a string of tubular well bore liner within a well casing as in an oil and gas well including a liner hanger device having expandible slips for anchoring the device in a well casing, slip expanders for expanding the slips, an annular seal element for sealing around the device with the inner wall of the casing, locking slips for holding the casing anchor slips at locked positions and locking slips for holding the annular seal expanded against the casing wall and a running tool for running, setting and anchoring the liner device including a hydraulic piston assembly having a piston operated coupling connectible by shear pin means with an outer sleeve portion of the liner hanger device, a coupling assembly having a threaded nut and a load bearing thrust plate connectible with an inner sleeve portion of the liner hanger device and an expandible dog assembly for engaging the upper end of the outer sleeve portion of the

  • Patent number: 4296807
Abstract: A crossover tool for use with concentric tubing strings. The apparatus disclosed provides the ability to treat and/or gravel pack a producing zone in a well, and is particularly suited for use in a multiple-zone well. The crossover tool may be locked in any one of three positions: a circulate mode, a closed test mode, or a closed bypass mode to facilitate movement of the tool within the well bore. All operation of the crossover tool is effected by reciprocation of the pipe string to which it is attached. Alternative embodiments are also disclosed which dispense with the closed test mode.

  • Patent number: 4270608
Abstract: A method of gravel packing multiple zones with a single trip of the operating string into a well without inducing fluid movement across zones, and without disturbing the zone being packed in reverse circulation. Apparatus is disclosed to perform the method, comprising a screen liner assembly surrounding a concentric operating string. Mechanical force on the operating string is used to change all tool modes of the apparatus. The operating string is accurately positioned with respect to the screen liner assembly at every zone level and zones may be easily relocated if necessary. Zones may be packed in any order, and a zone may be repacked, if necessary, during the same trip into the well.

  • Patent number: 4249601
Abstract: The present invention discloses an apparatus for running and setting a liner hanger in a well bore casing. The usual liner hanger comprises two movable tubular members and a gripping means which is activated by relative movement of said members. The running and setting tool of this invention is connected to each of the tubular members of the hanger by selectively releasable means and includes a pressure responsive piston and cylinder assembly which transmits relative movement to the tubular members and thereby sets the gripping means. Coacting means on the running and setting tool and on the liner hanger prevents premature setting of the gripping means prior to piston and cylinder movement. After setting the hanger, the tool and its operating parts including the piston and cylinder assembly are removed from the well.
