Patent number: 9626720Abstract: Separate user accounts can be linked into a group of linked user accounts so that content items assigned to each of the user accounts can be accessed by each user account in the group. Linking user accounts in this way allows the individual user accounts to share content items while also retaining their individual properties such as username, password, preference data, etc. Linking user accounts allows each user account to retain the content items assigned to the user account when the user account is unlinked from the group. Linking user accounts can be restricted according to linking rules that dictate how many user accounts can be included in a group, when a user account can be added or removed from a group, etc. A master user account can set parameters restricting content items accessible to the user accounts in the group, as well as money spent be each user account.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 2013Date of Patent: April 18, 2017Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey L. Robbin, Eduardo Humburto Cue, Evan C. Krasts, Andrew Irvin Williams, Maria Ioveva, Patrice Olivier Gautier, Steve S. Gedikian, Usama Mikael Hajj

Publication number: 20170026796Abstract: A system and method of locating “friends” having mobile devices connected to a network and associated with a user account is disclosed. The method includes sending a request to a mobile device, the mobile device determining its present geographic location and responding to the requestor with this information. This information may be in the form of a coordinate location such as a GPS location or it may be in the form of a name that the mobile device owner assigned to a particular area (e.g., “home”). Having this location information, a user is able to view the location of the friend that is associated with the mobile device.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 25, 2016Publication date: January 26, 2017Applicant: Apple Inc.Inventors: Raghu Pai, Timothy S. Hurley, Patrice Olivier Gautier, Karthik Narayanan, Murthy Parthasarathi, Maxime Veron

Publication number: 20160234060Abstract: Disclosed are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for setting a reminder triggered by a target device. A requesting device sends a request to a server to set a reminder triggered by a target device. The request includes parameters, such as a location and a condition that define when the reminder is triggered. The server sends instruction to the target device to set the reminder based on the parameters. When the condition such as arrival is met by the target device in relation to the location the target device sends a message to the server that the reminder has been triggered. The target device can set a geo-fence to determine the position of the target device in relation to the location, and the requesting user can dictate the size of the geo-fence. The server sends a notification to the requesting device that the reminder has been triggered.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 22, 2016Publication date: August 11, 2016Applicant: Apple Inc.Inventors: Ragu Pai, Joshua B. Dickens, Karthik Narayanan, Megan M. Frost, Patrice Olivier Gautier

Publication number: 20160048902Abstract: Recommending content items is disclosed. In some embodiments, determining an item to recommend includes receiving an indication that a first item is of interest and selecting a second item to recommend based at least in part on a degree of similarity of the second item to the first item as determined based at least in part on a number of other instances in which both the first item and the second item have been of interest and a first decayed popularity of the first item. In some embodiments, the degree of similarity of the second item to the first item is determined based in addition on a second decayed popularity of the second item.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 7, 2015Publication date: February 18, 2016Inventors: Alan Ward, Patrice Olivier Gautier, Garrick Nadim Toubassi

Publication number: 20150324617Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for remotely initiating lost mode on a computing device. A request that lost mode be initiated can include a message and contact information provided by the requesting user. Once authenticated, a command to initiate lost mode is sent to the lost device. Initiating lost mode includes locking the lost device and suppressing select functionality. The message and contact information are displayed and the lost device is enabled to contact the requesting user using the contact information. The lost device can also collect and transmit location data to the requesting user. The location data can be presented on a map indicating the lost devices location and the time the lost device was at the location.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 21, 2015Publication date: November 12, 2015Inventors: Raghu Pai, Karthik Narayanan, Megan M. Patent number: 8983905Abstract: The present technology resolves playlist version conflicts resulting from modifications made to a playlist version, stored on a client device and in a cloud locker, when the client device and the cloud locker are in a disconnected state. The present technology is a heuristic for determining how to resolve such version conflicts. Upon reconnection of the client and cloud locker, the server, associated with cloud locker attempts to reconcile any version discrepancies resulting from user-initiated changes. In one embodiment, when the server determines that one of the playlists on the client or server is a superset of the other, the superset is selected and saved to both the client and cloud locker, while the subset version is deleted.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 2012Date of Patent: March 17, 2015Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Thomas Alsina, Andrew Wadycki, Arvind S. Shenoy, David K. Heller, Jeffrey L. Robbin, Patrice Olivier Gautier, Payam Mirrashidi
