Abstract: A gradient coil specifically designed to enhance the performance of Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging and spectroscopy. In particular, the construction of gradient coils for use with resonant gradient power supplies to provide the necessary performance (large electromagnetic fields that can activated and deactivated rapidly) required in MR systems. These gradient coils require considerably less power than those presently employed for comparable performance and provide considerably more performance with existing power supplies. These coils are characterized by having a higher inductance than existing gradients of comparable size. Examples are given for the use of the invention in providing linear axial gradient field via a standard Maxwell gradient coil, with comparisons with existing coils.

Abstract: A sample mount for NMR microscopy and NMR spectroscopy which enables a specimen to be accurately placed within an NMR apparatus and if required in a preferred embodiment for the specimen to be examined under an optical microscope to enable the images to be accurately compared.

Abstract: A fluid dispenser is provided including a reservoir for a fluid material, at least one sealable chamber capable of receiving material from the reservoir, a closure valve device between the chamber and a fluid outlet from the dispenser and a pumping device for pressurizing any fluid material in the chamber, the chamber including at least one resilient wall portion arranged to be deformed by pressurizing of the fluid material.

Abstract: A fluid dispenser is provided with a carrier having a deformable container capable of being filled with a fluid material to be dispensed, the container being sealed by a closure valve device, with resilient device acting upon the container to place its contents under pressure, and a control device being provided for opening of the closure valve device to permit contents of the container to be ejected by pressure from the resilient device.
