  • Publication number: 20080261655
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating selection of an I-WLAN PLMN. A PLMN listing is created and maintained at a wireless device. The listing includes entries that identify PLMN together with their associated access technology indicators. The wireless device creates a list of available I-WLAN PLMNs. And a selector and comparator compare identities on the listing together with the list of available I-WLAN PLMNs. Selection is made of a PLMN on both the listing and the list and also exhibits an appropriate access technology capability identified by the access technology indication.

  • Publication number: 20080137624
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for global wireless sensor network architecture and protocol for remote supervision, asset control and operational management based on localized clusters of autonomous sensor/supervision/operational sensor nodes capable of ad hoc interconnection with nearby nodes and connection to gateway nodes with increased network functionality. These localized cluster nodes send data to gateway nodes either directly or through multi-hop transactions. The gateway nodes are, in turn, connected to other gateway nodes and operations control centers either through wireless or wired data communications links. Utilizing the Internet for long range interconnectivity, the network is scaleable to a global level. The resulting network is based on an ad hoc mesh topology to allow flexibility in network modification and expansion and is comprised of a tiered structure defined by increasing functionality.

  • Publication number: 20070207815
Abstract: A cross-technology coverage mapping system and method for modulating scanning behavior of a wireless user equipment (UE) device in a radio network environment. In one exemplary embodiment, the wireless UE device is operable to determine its geographic area location. A logic module of the wireless UE device is adapted for interrogating a database to determine which radio access technologies (RATs) have coverage in the geographic area location. Responsive to the interrogation, scanning by the wireless UE device is restricted to only those RATs that have coverage in the particular geographic area.

  • Publication number: 20070191006
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for automatically selecting a wireless communication network by user equipment using a “steered” PLMN are disclosed. A home network identification, a list of prioritized roaming network identifications, and a steered network identification are stored in memory (e.g. a SIM or USIM) of the user equipment. In an automatic network selection procedure, a scanning operation is performed to receive one or more network identifications corresponding to one or more available wireless communication networks in a coverage area. The user equipment attempts to select a wireless communication network in the coverage area by comparing the received network identifications from the scanning operation with the steered network identification.

  • Publication number: 20070060108
Abstract: A wireless communications device includes application logic and scheduling logic. The scheduling logic allows a user to create and maintain a schedule of events the user is interested in, and notifies the user of a scheduled event based on event data stored in memory of the wireless communications device. The application logic interfaces with the scheduling logic to determine when the scheduled event will occur, and generates a request for directions to a location of the scheduled event. The request may include event data associated with the scheduled event. A server receives the request and determines the directions based on the event data. The server sends the directions to the wireless communications device, which displays the directions to the user.

  • Publication number: 20060160532
Abstract: In one embodiment, a scheme is disclosed for providing regulatory compliance in network selection by a user equipment (UE) device that is operable to discover an equivalent home network in a foreign country. Upon receiving a network identity code from a network node, a determination is made if the network identified by the network identity code is an equivalent home network with respect to a subscriber identity associated with the UE device. If so, network scanning is performed by the UE device in accordance with scanning procedures specified for a home country associated with the subscriber identity provided that the geographic code portion of the network country code identifies a geographic area in the home country of the subscriber identity. Otherwise, network scanning is performed by the UE device in accordance with scanning procedures specified for a foreign geographic region identified in the network identity code.
