  • Publication number: 20100226775
Abstract: A renewable energy system for directly charging electric and hybrid vehicles is shown for areas with moderate wind and/or solar resources. The wind turbine blades and rotor assemblies for capturing the wind resources show significant improvements in both cost of manufacture and site assembly compared to three-bladed horizontal axis turbines. A simple, easily manufactured blade pivoting mechanism is shown to improve the performance of vertical axis turbines. A related improvement for varying blade pitch along the axis of horizontal axis turbine blades allows for production using continuous mass-production methods rather than the labor and cost intensive current practice of molding the blades. The blade assemblies are completely scalable and can be easily customized for particular applications/sites.

  • Publication number: 20080272934
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing energy management utilize wireless wide-area network broadcast signals and a decentralized receiver architecture to allow customers to make informed choices with regard to energy consumption and load shedding for particular appliances. A receiver assembly embedded within an appliance receives a broadcast signal, e.g., an FM subcarrier signal, including tariff data and other electrical grid data. A processor coupled with the receiver controls the appliance in accordance with the received data and in accordance with user-defined preferences. In some embodiments, a transceiver assembly is embedded in one or more appliances in a household. Each transceiver is configured to receive broadcast signals regarding grid data, and to communicate with other appliances and/or a usage meter over a wireless personal area network. Meter data from one or more households may be aggregated and uplinked back to the energy provider or other entities.

  • Patent number: 7390717
Abstract: A fabrication process for a trench type power semiconductor device includes forming inside spacers over a semiconductor surface. Using the spacers as masks, trenches with gates are formed in the semiconductor body. After removing the spacers, source implants are formed in the semiconductor body along the trench edges and are then driven. Insulation caps are then formed over the trenches. Outside spacers are next formed along the sides of the caps. Using these spacers as masks, the semiconductor surface is etched and high conductivity contact regions formed. The outside spacers are then removed and source and drain contacts formed. Alternatively, the source implants are not driven. Rather, prior to outside spacer formation a second source implant is performed. The outside spacers are then formed, portions of the second source implant etched, any remaining source implant driven, and the contact regions formed. The gate electrodes are either recessed below or extend above the semiconductor surface.

  • Patent number: 7329099
Abstract: A new design of vertical axis wind turbine is disclosed based on a dome structure using dome struts as blades that work in concert to produce rotational motion. The stability and low cost of the new design allows the turbine to function in low wind speed regimes as well as high speed winds that would be encountered in off-shore wind installations. The large stresses and structural requirements of mounting large horizontal axis wind turbines, particularly off-shore, are avoided with the new system. A new energy distribution system is proposed that will capture abundant off-shore wind energy, store it aboard a generator/delivery ship in the form of Hydrogen gas, and deliver it to an existing shore based power plant to produce electricity using a conventional gas turbine. Alternatively, the Hydrogen can be used to produce methane from coal using known processes to add natural gas to pipelines in areas that would normally be consuming the material.

  • Publication number: 20070276220
Abstract: The present invention provides a magnetic resonance imaging system making use of low resolution, whole-body plan scan image of a body. The whole-body plan scan image is exploited to gather a plurality of individual information of a body that is essential for an optimization of acquisition parameter for acquisition of a high resolution and high quality image of a region of interest of the body. Moreover, the whole-body plan scan image is used in order to facility a determination and a selection of a region of interest to be performed by an operator. Additionally, the MRI provides effective means for autonomously identifying specific body parts or even organs of a patient. Providing the entire information that can be extracted from the whole-body plan scan image to the operator effectively simplifies the workflow of the operator in an intuitive way.

  • Publication number: 20070024282
Abstract: The invention enables to monitor a magnetic field drift of a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus on the basis of the magnetic resonance signals, which are acquired during magnetic resonance image data acquisition, such as by single shot EPI or by a gradient echo sequence. The phases of at least two magnetic resonance signals are acquired an echo time after the corresponding RF excitations. This corresponds to the central k-space line, which has frequency encoding but no phase encoding. The difference of two consecutive phase measurements, which are acquired at a certain time interval provides the shift of the resonance frequency. This enables monitoring of the shift of the resonance frequency and compensation of the magnetic field drift.

  • Publication number: 20070010737
Abstract: A novel method is described for simulation of an electric stimulation of the nerve system subject to the rate of change of gradient fields. A gradient signal is filtered and a stimulation signal is derived, which is compared with a predetermined stimulation threshold value. An indicator signal is generated if the threshold value is exceeded. Therefore the time dependent and spatially dependent electric fields as defined by the scanning sequence and the gradient coil properties are calculated. A vector combination of said calculated electric field components from each gradient coil axis is performed, which results in a temporal diagram of the total electric field at various spatial locations within the gradient coil. The stimulation probability at each location from said temporal diagram and said stimulation signal is then calculated, and said stimulation probability is compared with the stimulation threshold value at each location within the gradient coil.
