Patent number: 5417095Abstract: One end of a rotating workpiece is threaded by using a single threading roll having on one end thereof a plurality of annular threading ribs the diameters and/or pitches of which increase slightly and progressively from one end of the plurality to the other. Initially the roll is advanced diagonally toward the end of the work to be threaded until all of the threading ribs on the roll have penetrated the work only part way to the final depth of the desired thread, after which the roll is advanced parallel to the axis of the work for a predetermined distance.
