  • Patent number: 4481712
Abstract: A folding knife unit particularly for the attachment to wearing apparel. A base plate of the unit can be provided with elements for securing the base plate to the apparel, these elements usually being on the rear surface of the base plate. The front surface of the base or base plate is provided with a headed stud in one embodiment to engage a notch in one end of the folding knife, and a second stud to pass through an aperture in one side plate of the knife and an aligned aperture in the closest knife blade. The second stud is provided with an annular recess, and the action of the backspring causes the knife blade to releasibly engage that recess whereby the knife is releasibly secured to the base plate. In another embodiment, a spring clip engages one end of a side plate rather than the headed stud.

  • Patent number: 4408394
Abstract: A jack knife which may be disassembled with a minimum of tools for purposes of cleaning the interior, changing blades or the like. The knife has a pair of liner side plates encasing a backspring and thereby providing a compartment for receiving a knife blade. Each of the side plates has a slot of nonuniform width near the head end for receiving an annularly grooved pin. This pin also passes through the head end of the backspring. A pivot through the back-spring engages a cooperative pair of apertures in the side plates and provides a pivot for the rotation of the side plates with respect to each other when disassembly is desired. A blade pivot member passes through one side plate and through an opening in the tang of the knife blade and thence is suitably engaged with the second side plate.

  • Patent number: 4218819
Abstract: A folding knife is described which may be disassembled without the use of tools for the purpose of cleaning the interior, changing blades or the like. The knife has a pair of side plates each having a slot of nonuniform width near each end that align with corresponding slots in the facing plate. Annularly grooved pins fit in each aligned set of slots. A back spring is positioned between the side plates, and a pivot therethrough engages a cooperative pair of holes in the side plates. One grooved pin passes through a circular opening in the tang of a blade, the pin being the pivot for the blade. A second grooved pin passes through a circular opening in a locking cam unit, the pin being the pivot for the cam. When rotated in one direction the cam unit locks the grooved pins in the slots and tensions the back spring against the blade tang.

  • Patent number: 4161818
Abstract: A folding pocket knife which can be readily disassembled for cleaning and blade replacement. The pocket knife comprises a case having first and further cooperating case members. A blade is pivotally mounted at one end portion of the case on a pivot pin which assists in securing the case members together. A spring assembly serves to secure the portions of the case members opposite the case end carrying the blade and applies biasing forces to the blade tang which assists in maintaining the blade in its opened or closed position after being moved to one of such positions by an operator.

  • Patent number: 4120088
Abstract: The construction of a folding-blade pocket knife or the like is described having an improved means for mechanically assisting the movement of the blade from a closed position to an open position or the reverse. The means includes a turning handle pivoted to an exposed portion of a blade pivot and a spring-loaded detent element in cooperation with specifically located indentations in the turning handle. Furthermore, a locking lug on the turning handle is provided to cooperate with a recess in the knife handle to prevent unintentional movement of the knife blade.
