Patent number: 8667017Abstract: A method for collaborative management of a process is disclosed herein. The method includes electronically creating a declaration document containing information relating to one or more characteristics of an equipment unit involved in effecting the process. The method further includes electronically creating, at least partially based upon the information contained within the declaration document, an instruction document prescribing changes in one or more operational parameters of the equipment unit. The declaration document may be created by an operator of the equipment unit and the instruction document may be created by a user entity having electronic access to the declaration document.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2011Date of Patent: March 4, 2014Assignee: Invensys Systems, Inc.Inventors: Paul W. Forney, Warren T. Ratcliff, Jr.

Patent number: 8015299Abstract: Disclosed is a server that provides session-persistent concurrent licenses for resources accessed by clients. In one embodiment, rather than requiring a license when the server is initially accessed, a license is not requested until a client seeks access to a licensed resource. In one implementation, scripts for Web pages associated with licensed resources include requests for licenses from a license management facility. Certain resources conditionally request a license based upon the origin of the access request: the license request may be bypassed for access requests from “pre-licensed” applications. Session-based licensing allows equitable assessment of compensation to a service provider for use of the services. The server includes many resources, some of which require a license for access while others do not. The services of premium value are the only ones for which customers are expected to obtain/claim a license.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2010Date of Patent: September 6, 2011Assignee: Invensys Systems Inc.Inventors: Barry Omshehe, Janie West, Paul W. Forney

Publication number: 20110205079Abstract: In one oil production operation, a fluid conduit transports a fluid from a wellhead to a floating production platform. To prevent an occurrence of formations that obstruct the flow of fluid in the fluid conduit, a forecast is made as to whether a flow assurance curve will intersect an operating curve of the fluid conduit. In the event that the operating curve and the flow assurance curve will intersect, the appropriate personnel may be alerted so that they may attempt to prevent the hydrate forming conditions from occurring in the pipe. Which personnel are alerted may be based on a level of criticality. The level of criticality may be based on an estimated time period remaining until the flow assurance curve and the operating curve will intersect.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 6, 2011Publication date: August 25, 2011Applicant: INVENSYS SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: Stanley DeVries, Paul W. Forney

Patent number: 7973794Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for rendering animated graphics on a browser client based upon a stream of runtime data from a manufacturing/process control system. The graphics animation is based upon an animated graphic display object specification and runtime data from a portal server affecting an appearance trait of the animated graphic display object. The client browser receives an animated graphics description from the portal server specifying an animation behavior for an identified graphical display object. The client creates a data exchange connection between an animated display object, corresponding to the animated graphics description, and a source of runtime data from the portal server affecting display of the animated display object. Thereafter, the client applies runtime data received from the source of runtime data to the animated display object to render an animated graphic display object.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 2010Date of Patent: July 5, 2011Assignee: Invensys Systems, Inc.Inventors: Paul W. Forney, Rashesh Mody, Chau Bich, David Neff, Todd Miller, Kimson Q. Nguyen

Patent number: 7925979Abstract: A manufacturing/process control system information access provider architecture is disclosed. Manufacturing/process control system data provider flexibility is achieved through a user-configurable manufacturing/process control information portal server that comprises multiple selectable data provides (sources) and/or data types that a particular data provider accommodates. A user configures the portal server to deliver manufacturing/process control information associated with a controlled process environment, such as a food processing plant floor or an oil refinery reactor, to the user via a browser client over the Internet or a corporate intranet. Furthermore, an extensible architecture is provided that enables adding new components to the portal server. Such extensions include new data sources and new data types/handlers.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 2001Date of Patent: April 12, 2011Assignee: Invensys Systems, Inc.Inventors: Paul W. Forney, Rashesh Mody, Dave Tran, Pramod Thazichayil, Vijay Anand, Kimson Q. Nguyen

Publication number: 20080092067Abstract: The present invention provides central management of custom properties, including graphic facets, for an industrial control system. Standards for the custom properties are centrally developed and are then propagated to projects. Even after one or more projects have been developed, the custom property can be centrally changed, and the change can be propagated to all existing projects to override previous properties in the projects. With central management of the graphic, the inner functionality can be abstracted from the location where the graphic will be used. In some embodiments, a custom property is given a default value. That default value may be overridden in a particular project or at particular time, but the property can always revert back to the set default. Some custom properties may be “locked” to prevent user modification, and some properties may be set to be invisible to the end user.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 27, 2006Publication date: April 17, 2008Applicant: Invensys Systems, Inc.Inventors: Jerome Richard Anderson, Robert Christopher Coble, Paul W.
