    Abstract: A stimulation material is partially bonded to a pressure-sensitive adhesive to form a stimulation blend. The stimulation blend, with or without pressure-sensitive adhesive, may be juxtaposed between two substrates to form a stimulation composite. When the pressure-sensitive adhesive is present within the stimulation composite, there are regions of the adhesive that do not contain a significant amount of stimulation material. By arranging regions of stimulation blend with respect to the pressure-sensitive adhesive regions, a pattern defined by the stimulation blend is formed. This pattern may deliver a stimulation effect that is at least as effective as using one-hundred percent stimulation blend within the stimulation composite, it not more effective. The stimulation composite may be cut into countless varieties of pledget shapes for use in personal-care absorbent articles.

    Abstract: Elastic composite laminates are disclosed. The laminates include an elastic member bonded to at least one facing material. In accordance with the present disclosure, an adhesive composition is coextruded with an elastomeric material to form the elastic member. In this manner, the elastic member can be bonded to the facing material in a stretched state without having to apply a separate adhesive layer between the two materials. In one embodiment, the elastic member can be bonded to the facing material according to a pattern that includes bonded areas and non-bonded areas.

    Abstract: Polylactic acid fibers formed from a thermoplastic composition that contains polylactic acid and a polymeric toughening additive are provided. The present inventors have discovered that the specific nature of the components and process by which they are blended may be carefully controlled to achieve a composition having desirable morphological features. More particularly, the toughening additive can be dispersed as discrete physical domains within a continuous phase of the polylactic acid. These domains have a particular size, shape, and distribution such that upon fiber drawing, they absorb energy and become elongated. This allows the resulting composition to exhibit a more pliable and softer behavior than the otherwise rigid polylactic acid. Through selective control over the components and method employed, the present inventors have discovered that the resulting fibers may thus exhibit good mechanical properties, both during and after melt spinning.

The meltblown layer may include an elastic polyolefin-based meltblown polymer having a degree of crystallinity between about 3% and about 40%. The laminate suitably has an inter-layer peel strength of less than about 70 grams per 3 inches cross-directional width at a strain rate of 300 mm/min. Alternatively or additionally, the continuous filament strands and/or the facing layer may include an elastic polyolefin-based meltblown polymer having a degree of crystallinity between about 3% and about 40%.

    Abstract: The present invention discloses a disposable meltblown scrubbing product for use in household cleaning or personal care applications and an abrasive aggregate fiber which may be utilized in the scrubbing product. The meltblown web is formed primarily of polymeric fibers in a disordered or random distribution as is typical of fibers deposited in meltblown processes so as to form an open, porous structure. The aggregate fibers of the present invention generally are formed of two or more separate abrasive polymer fibers or strands which are adhered together along at least about 5 mm of the fiber length. The abrasive fibers of the meltblown web are generally greater than about 15 microns in diameter.

    Abstract: High-viscosity elastomeric adhesive compositions including a high softening point tackifier resin in combination with a base polymer can be used to create elastomeric composite laminates having effective adhesion and elastic properties. The elastomeric adhesive compositions suitably have a viscosity between about 100,000 and about 500,000 cps at between about 300 degrees Fahrenheit (149 degrees Celsius) and about 350 degrees Fahrenheit (177 degrees Celsius). Facing layers, such as nonwoven webs, films, elastic strands, fastening material, absorbent material, and the like, can be laminated to one or both surfaces of the elastomeric compositions to form elastomeric composite laminates. A method of making such compositions and laminates involves forming the compositions into elastomeric adhesive films and/or strands.

Generally, energy will be inputted to the adhesive in the form of infrared heat, heat, or ultrasonic energy, although any energy form may be used, so long as the energy is capable of activating the adhesive. Prior to activation, webs, components, composites, and strands comprising such re-activatable adhesives are convenient to handle because the adhesive is not yet tacky.
