The base station then receives one of the resources from a group of the one or more resources within the BRACH resource assigned to the user equipment corresponding to the BRACH resource, and identifies a preferred beam index of the user equipment based on information in the BRACH resource and the received one of the resources.

Transmissions in a network may be protected by a first access point (AP) sending an omni-directional transmission and a beamformed or sectorized transmission to a station (STA), an overlapping basic service set (OBSS) confirming a spatially orthogonal (SO) condition based on the omni-directional transmission, and a second AP monitoring the omni-directional transmission and confirming the SO condition. The STA may be configured to receive a request-to-send (RTS) frame indicating data is available for transmission, and transmit a cooperative sectorized (CS) clear-to-send (CTS) frame indicating an ability for multiple AP reception.

As used herein, a device is considered to have “beam correspondence” when the device's TX and RX antennas satisfy a calibration criteria. In one example, a device's TX and RX antennas satisfy the calibration criteria when a difference between quality parameters corresponding to reference signals transmitted and received using corresponding TX and RX beams is less than a threshold. In another example, a device's TX and RX antennas satisfy the calibration criteria when a list of indices ranking the device's TX beams matches a list of indices ranking the device's RX beams. The lists of indices may be derived by transmitting and receiving references signals according to the devices RX and TX beams, and then generating list of indices based on quality parameters of the respective RX and TX beams.

The CCA value may indicate a minimum CCA threshold for a packet received from the second BSS.
