  • Patent number: 7431110
Abstract: A high-torque gear assembly for a personal mobility apparatus is disclosed generally comprising a shaft that drives a drive wheel of the personal mobility apparatus, a worm driven by a motor, and a worm wheel coupled to the shaft and driven by the worm, where both the worm wheel is a globoid gear and the worm is a globoid worm. In some embodiments, a gear train is coupled between a gear shaft and a drive wheel shaft for translating the rotational motion. In certain embodiments, the worm wheel and the worm have a gear ratio of at least 10:1, and the worm has a lead angle between twenty and thirty degrees.

  • Patent number: 5829472
Abstract: In a preferred embodiment, a dual contained purge connection for a dual containment valve, the valve having a body with inlet and outlet passageways and primary and secondary flow paths defined therein, the purge connection including: a purge fitting fixedly attached to the body and in communication with the primary flow path; and a housing having a closed distal end, surrounding the purge fitting, and having a proximal end removably attached to the body, an interior volume of the housing external to the purge fitting and surrounding the purge fitting being in communication with the secondary flow path.

  • Patent number: 5482254
Abstract: In a preferred embodiment, in a fluid flow valve having a body and having a movable member with lower face, the movable member being movable between a position spaced from a sealing position in the body when the valve is in an open position and movable to the sealing position when the valve is in a closed position, the improvement including: an annular sealing member disposed in the outer periphery of the lower face of the movable member to sealingly engage a portion of the body when the valve is in the closed position.

  • Patent number: 5421446
Abstract: An apparatus for selectively diverting articles being conveyed on a second conveyor path to a first conveyor path includes an apparatus for diverting an article, which diverting apparatus has an upstream end and a downstream end, the diverting apparatus being selectively movable between an activated position and an inactivated position. When the diverting apparatus is in its inactivated position, the diverting apparatus is included in the first conveyor path, and receives at its upstream end articles being conveyed in a first direction on the second conveyor path and conveys the articles along the first conveyor path. When the diverting apparatus is in its inactivated position, the diverting apparatus is sufficiently distant from the first conveyor path not to obstruct articles of a selected maximum size being conveyed on the second conveyor path. There is also provided an apparatus for selectively moving the diverting apparatus between its activated position and its inactivated position.

  • Patent number: 5135317
Abstract: Accordingly, an apparatus has been provided for printing identifying indicia on a work product. The apparatus includes a print mechanism and a transport for imparting relative motion between the work product and the print mechanism. The work product and the print mechanism are positioned in close proximity to one another. A control is provided for causing the print mechanism to print predetermined identifying information on the work product when the work product and the print mechanism reach a desired location as they move with respect to each other. In the preferred embodiment the print mechanism has a fixed print electrode with a moving resistive ribbon associated therewith. A track is provided for supporting the work product on air bearings. A moving vacuum belt moves the work product along the track and thereby moves the work product with respect to both the print electrode and the ribbon.
