  • Patent number: 11259240
Abstract: During PDN connection establishment in the EPC, a UE and a session management entity (SME) (e.g., PGW-C+SMF) exchange information. In case the SME supports more than one S-NSSAI, before the SME provides an S-NSSAI to the UE, the SME should check such that the selected S-NSSAI is among the UE's subscribed S-NSSAIs by retrieving the Subscribed S-NSSAI from a UDM using, for example, the Nudm_SDM_Get service operation.

  • Publication number: 20210400144
Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to a method performed by a network node for handling communication of a user equipment, UE, in a wireless communication network. The network node transmits to a radio network node, a first message for setting up context of the UE, wherein the first message comprises a request indicator, and wherein the request indicator requests a voice match response from the radio network node indicating whether voice over packet switched is supported or not by the UE and/or the radio network node. Furthermore, the network node receives from the radio network node, a second message for indicating a capability of the UE, wherein the second message comprises a support indication indicating whether voice over packet switched is supported or not by the UE and/or the radio network node.

  • Patent number: 11159934
Abstract: An Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) provides the UE with a UE Reporting Area, URA. The URA is a sub-area of the Reporting Area, RA and is defined by a set of cells, gNBs or traffic area identifiers, TAIs, or a combination of them. The UE sends a notification to the AMF when it crosses the border of URA. The AMF determines the URA by retrieving or determining a RA for the UE, retrieving a PRA of the UE, and determining the URA in dependence on the RA and PRA.

  • Publication number: 20210235408
Abstract: This disclosure combines the Attach and Tracking Area Update procedures into one new mobility procedure: the Registration procedure performed by a signal handling function SHF. One advantage of the proposed Registration procedure is that, if the new SHF is unable to obtain UE data from the old SHF the new SHF will nevertheless register the UE so that the UE does not have to perform another registration procedure (e.g., an Attach procedure).

  • Patent number: 11006361
Abstract: Systems and methods relating to a core network detection mechanism for detecting abnormal signaling patterns for signaling aimed at wireless devices (e.g., low-power consumption wireless devices such as low-power consumption Machine Type Communication (MTC) devices) are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method of operation of a core network node in a cellular communications network comprises receiving signaling aimed at a wireless device, detecting, via a detection mechanism, an abnormal signaling pattern based on the signaling, and taking one or more actions upon detecting an abnormal signaling pattern. In this manner, an action(s) may be made to mitigate increased power consumption at the wireless device due to abnormal signaling.

  • Patent number: 10917867
Abstract: A UE is configured such that, when in MICO mode, the UE does not transmit certain messages (e.g., Service Request, periodic registration update message) whenever there is a risk that the certain message will not be routed to the UE's serving AMF. In some embodiments, the network (e.g., serving AMF) indicates to the UE in MICO mode an area (parts of, or the entire PLMN) that is covered by the serving AMF, the Within Serving AMF (WSA) area. While the UE is within the indicated WSA area, the UE in MICO mode may continue to use periodic registration area update or Service Requests (instead of the more extensive mobility registration update procedure) as there is no risk of addressing a new AMF in that area.

  • Publication number: 20210029752
Abstract: A wireless device (10) is configured to map a first type of identity (ID1) usable in a first type of wireless communication network (20) to a second type of identity (ID2) usable in a second type of wireless communication network (30). The second type of identity (ID2) may be mappable from any one of multiple different possible types of identities usable in different respective types of wireless communication networks, including the first type of identity (ID1). The wireless device (10) is also configured to transmit to a base station (36) signaling (60) that includes the second type of identity (ID2) and that indicates a type of identity, from among the multiple different possible types of identities, from which the second type of identity (ID2) is mapped by indicating that the second type of identity (ID2) is mapped from the first type of identity (ID1).

  • Patent number: 10880792
Abstract: The embodiments herein relate to a method implemented in radio access node. The radio access node receives a list of prioritized Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) Identities (IDs). The list of prioritized PLMN IDs comprises a PLMN ID of a serving PLMN and one or more PLMN IDs for one or more PLMNs of one or more shared networks. The radio access node instructs the wireless device to search for suitable cells for handover on at least one PLMN identified in the list of prioritized PLMN IDs and receives a list of suitable cells for handover. The radio access node determines a target PLMN ID and a target cell ID based on the list of suitable cells and the list of prioritized PLMN IDs. The radio access node initiates handover of the wireless device to a target cell identified by the target cell ID in the target PLMN.
