  • Patent number: 5000205
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for washing or peeling tuberous products including providing a bed of rotatable driven brushes in a container, supplying liquid into the container such that the undersides of the brushes extend into the liquid, disposing the tuberous products onto the brushes at one end of the bed and rotating the brushes to transport the tuberous products to the other end of the bed while cleaning the tuberous products, the improvement comprising contacting the tuberous products above the bed and along the length of the bed to slow down the transport speed of the tuberous products without decreasing the rotational speed of the brushes. The step of contacting comprises providing a plurality of freely pivotable flaps, brushes, grinding rolls, a brush plate or the like above the brushes with the lower ends thereof spaced apart from the tops of the brushes.

  • Patent number: 4739965
Abstract: An apparatus for discharging dirty liquid from a vessel under pressure, comprising a valve body having a supply and discharge opening, said body accommodating a valve having a stem extending beyond said valve body and adapted for coaction with a central seat having a discharge opening. Said stem is further connected to, or integral with, the piston rod of a piston-and-cylinder assembly arranged in alignment with said stem. Said valve body, stem and seat are designed and arranged within the valve body in such a manner that the fluid to be discharged can flow from all sides radially inwardly towards the discharge opening.

  • Patent number: 4632025
Abstract: A steam peeling or cooking apparatus for produce, such as potatoes, carrots, celeriac, red beets, Swedish turnips, apples, and the like, comprising a substantially cylindrical peeling vessel basically stationary in operation, said vessel including supply and discharge conduits for medium, in particular steam, and having closable supply and discharge openings. Said vessel is divided into two compartments by a grid-like screen arranged substantially at right angles to the axis of the peeling vessel. The compartment not being in direct contact with the produce supply opening forms a condensate chamber and includes a closable discharge opening, said apparatus further including means for agitating the produce during operation.

  • Patent number: 4566375
Abstract: A steam peeling or boiling apparatus for crops, such as potatoes, carrots, celery, apples and the like, or for meat, comprising a substantially cylindrical peeling vessel arranged for rotation around horizontal stub shafts, having a supply and discharge opening disposed eccentrically or non-eccentrically in one of the end faces. The opening is closable by an inwardly movable cover operated by a lever rotatably connected thereto, the other end of which is rotatably connected to the exterior of the vessel. The cover is provided with a second operating lever by means of which the cover can be displaced along the inner wall of the vessel in entirely "controlled" fashion. The second operating lever is rotatably connected to the exterior of the vessel at a location situated in the perpendicular median plane between the initial and final positions of the cover pivot of the second operating lever.

  • Patent number: 4478863
Abstract: A method for steam peeling a plant product selected from the group consisting of potatoes, carrots, celery, red beets, Swedish turnips and apples in a substantially cylindrical peeling vessel having a product opening at one end and a liquid discharge outlet at the other end. In the peeling vessel there is disposed a partition or grid at the liquid discharge outlet end perpendicular to the longitudinal axis thereof and spaced from the liquid discharge outlet. The partition prevents passage of product to be peeled while allowing condensate to pass therethrough such that the product does not lie in the condensate during the application of steam. The steam is applied through an access opening in the vessel which is above the product level when the vessel is tilted around a horizontal axis into a normally operating longitudinally inclined position.
