  • Patent number: 5364758
Abstract: The invention relates to primers and a method of detecting human papilloma virus (HPV) genotypes by means of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). The invention provides such primers and such PCR conditions that in principle any genital HPV genotype is detected. The general primers according to the invention consist of an oligonucleotide which comprises at the 3' end one of the sequences of SEQ ID NO: 3-6, or a sequence which is homologous to one of these four sequences as to at least 75%. In order to obtain amplification even in the case of a limited number of mismatches, in the PCR a relatively low annealing temperature of 30.degree.-50.degree. C. and a relatively high Mg.sup.+2 concentration of 2-10 mM are used. The invention enables a sensitive and reliable preselection of samples to be examined, such as cervical smears.
