  • Publication number: 20070137966
Abstract: An electrohydraulic clutch includes a bidirectional electric motor, a hydraulic circuit and a multiple plate friction clutch pack. The bidirectional electric motor drives a ball screw through a gear reduction assembly. An electric brake on the motor output may be energized to inhibit its rotation. Alternatively, an anti-back drive wrap-spring assembly may be utilized on the motor output. The ball screw output bi-directionally translates a master piston of the hydraulic circuit which in turn advances and retracts an annular slave piston disposed adjacent the friction clutch pack. Hence, actuation of the electric motor displaces hydraulic fluid and compresses or relaxes the friction clutch pack, thereby transferring or inhibiting torque.

  • Publication number: 20070056824
Abstract: A torque coupling having an actuation system operable to control actuation of a transfer clutch in coordination with actuation of a pump clutch. The transfer clutch is disposed between a pair of rotary members to transfer drive torque therebetween. The pump clutch is operable for selectively coupling a fluid pump to the first rotary member when lubricant is required to cool the transfer clutch.

  • Publication number: 20070056823
Abstract: A pump system that pressurizes a fluid includes a shaft, a first rotor and a second rotor that is selectively driven by the shaft. Relative rotation between the first rotor and the second rotor generates variable sized pockets therebetween to pressurize the fluid. A clutch regulates a degree of coupling of the rotor to the shaft between a decoupled state and a coupled state to regulate the relative rotation between the first and second rotors.

  • Patent number: 6991430
Abstract: A turbine blade squealer tip has a continuous squealer tip wall extending radially outwardly from and continuously around a tip cap. A recessed tip wall portion of the tip wall is recessed inboard from a pressure side of an airfoil outer wall of an airfoil of the blade forming a tip shelf therebetween. A plurality of film cooling shelf holes are disposed through the tip shelf to an internal cooling circuit of the blade and are spaced away from a junction between the recessed tip wall portion and the tip shelf. The exemplary embodiment of the airfoil includes shelf hole centerlines of the holes passing through pierce points in the shelf. At least a majority of the shelf hole centerlines are angled in outboard directions away from and outboard of the squealer tip wall. A majority of centerlines are angled away from vertical lines passing through the pierce points at first component angles in a range between 2 degrees and 16 degrees.

  • Publication number: 20050083833
Abstract: A system and method for sending and receiving information in a network using a redundant switching architecture. In one embodiment, the method includes generating a communications frame including a first header at a first control element. The first header is mapped to a second header and then the communications frame is encapsulated with a set of two redundant destination addresses whereby two instances of the communications frame are created. The communications frame instances, including the second header and the redundant destination addresses, are sent from the first control element via both a first switching plane and a second switching plane to a second control element. Upon receipt, only one of the communications frame instances is retained by the second control element for upstream processing.

  • Publication number: 20050000316
Abstract: A light-weight transfer case is provided for implementation with a four-wheel drive vehicle. The light-weight transfer case includes a single-piece housing formed through either a lost-foam magnesium or die cast process. First and second output shafts are included which are formed from single-piece tubing through either a hydro-forming or swaging process. The first and second output shafts are lighter weight and maintain increased strength over traditional transfer case output shafts. A gear reduction unit is also included for establishing high, low and neutral speeds of the first and second output shafts. Furthermore, a mode selection device is included for selectively providing drive to either a single output shaft, in a two-wheel drive mode, or both the first and second output shafts, in a four-wheel drive mode.

  • Patent number: 5724842
Abstract: A rolling mill (1) for rolling metal strip has provision for applying discrete levels of liquid coolant to the strip and the temperature (te) of the strip leaving the mill is compared with a target temperature (ts) and the temperature (Te) the incoming workpiece is compared with a target temperature (Ts). The difference signals are employed to control the levels of liquid coolant and the rolling speed so that the exit temperature remains substantially equal to the target exit temperature.
