  • Patent number: 8210376
Abstract: A child-resistant package includes a plastic container having a blow-molded neck finish with an end, at least one external thread, an arcuate part-circumferential ledge adjacent to the neck finish and a plurality of angularly spaced ratchet teeth on the ledge. A closure has at least one skirt, at least one internal thread on the skirt, at least one flexible resilient ratchet finger extending radially inwardly from the skirt at an angle to the skirt, and a seal element within the skirt for sealing engagement with the end of the container neck finish. Threading of the closure onto the container neck finish brings the ratchet finger into engagement with the ratchet teeth. The array of ratchet teeth and the seal element are such as to accommodate tolerance variations in the blow-molded neck finish while maintaining a seal and child-resistance capability at the neck finish.

  • Patent number: 8056749
Abstract: A plastic closure includes a base molded as one piece with a lid and integrally connected to the lid by a hinge. The lid is radially inwardly displaced from an outer periphery of the base. The hinge has a central portion with a convex outer surface, with the lid closed and as viewed in side elevation, that blends with a smooth curvature into outer surfaces of the lid and the base. The hinge has laterally spaced end portions on opposite sides of the central portion and having concave outer surfaces when the lid is closed. The base preferably has a circular periphery and the end portions of the hinge are angularly spaced from each other. The outer surface of the lid preferably is flat, and the lid preferably is integrally connected to the base as molded by at least one frangible bridge spaced from the hinge.

  • Patent number: 8056742
Abstract: A child-resistant closure includes a plastic inner shell having a base wall with a peripheral skirt, at least one internal thread segment on the peripheral skirt and a plurality of internal lugs on the base wall adjacent to the skirt. A plastic outer shell has a base wall with a peripheral skirt and a plurality of internal L-shaped lugs at a juncture of the base wall and the peripheral skirt. Each of the L-shaped lugs includes a first portion extending radially inwardly along an undersurface of the base wall of the outer shell for engaging the external lugs on the inner shell, and a second portion extending axially along an inner surface of the peripheral skirt of the outer shell for slidably engaging the inner shell and aligning the inner shell within the outer shell. The second portions of the L-shaped lugs preferably have rounded radially inwardly facing surfaces for reduced sliding friction with the skirt of the inner shell.

  • Patent number: 8011525
Abstract: A plastic container for a child-resistant package, including a sidewall with an outer surface, a deflectable release cantilevered from the outer surface and deflectable toward the outer surface, and deflection limiting elements carried by the deflectable release to limit deflection of the release. The deflection limiting elements include laterally spaced lugs transversely extending toward the sidewall outer surface from the deflectable release and having portions normally spaced from the sidewall outer surface, such that deflection of the release brings the portions of the lugs into abutment with the sidewall outer surface.

  • Patent number: 7837064
Abstract: A fluid dispensing device includes a barrel having a hollow interior, an inlet opening at one end and an open second end. A plunger is slidably received within the hollow interior of the barrel through the open second end and has an outlet passage extending through its length to an outlet outside of the barrel. An inlet valve is disposed at the inlet opening of the barrel and an outlet valve is carried within the outlet passage of the plunger. A closure is secured to the barrel over the open end of the barrel and over the plunger, with the closure urging the plunger into the barrel against the inlet valve such that the plunger engages the inlet valve and holds the inlet valve closed. Opening of the closure permits the plunger to be withdrawn from the barrel to draw fluid into the barrel through the inlet opening and the inlet valve. Return of the plunger into the barrel closes the inlet valve and forces the fluid in the barrel through the outlet passage and the outlet valve in the plunger.

  • Patent number: 7735665
Abstract: A child-resistant dispensing closure includes a base having a deck with a dispensing opening, a peripheral skirt extending from the deck, and an inner wall extending from the deck for securing the closure to a container. An axial passage extends from the deck between the peripheral skirt and the inner wall, and opens radially outwardly through the peripheral skirt. A pair of spaced ledges are disposed in the axial passage. A lid is molded integrally with the base and is coupled by a hinge to the base so as to be pivotable between a closed position overlying the deck and an open position spaced from the deck. The lid has a latch arm that resiliently extends from a periphery of the lid. The latch arm has a pair of oppositely extending tabs for engagement with the ledges to lock the lid in the closed position.

  • Patent number: 7641064
Abstract: A child-resistant package includes a container having a finish with at least one external thread, at least one axial lug on a shoulder spaced from the thread and an external abutment on the finish adjacent to the lug. A closure of integrally molded plastic construction includes a base wall, a peripheral outer wall, and an inner wall spaced from the outer wall and having at least one internal thread for securement to the container finish. The outer wall has diametrically opposed gaps, and the inner wall extends axially in radial alignment with the gaps for circumferential abutment with the at least one lug on the container. The inner wall is flexible inwardly for clearing the lug between the lug and the external abutment, and for permitting removal of the closure from the container finish. The external abutment preferably is in the form of an external bead that extends circumferentially around the finish in alignment with an edge of the lug.

  • Patent number: 7451896
Abstract: A child-resistant dispensing closure includes a base having a deck, a dispensing opening in the deck and a peripheral skirt extending from the deck. A lid is integrally hinged to the base for movement between a closed position overlying the deck and an open position spaced from the deck. The base has an opening in the deck adjacent to the peripheral skirt and opposite from the hinge, and a tab extends from the skirt adjacent to the opening. The lid has a lug for snap-coupling over an exterior of the tab in the closed position of the lid. The peripheral skirt is resiliently flexibly moveable into the opening to move the tab out of engagement with the lug on the lid skirt and thereby permit movement of the lid to the open position.

  • Patent number: 6896151
Abstract: A fluid dispensing closure includes a housing having a base for securement to a container and a peripheral wall extending from the base toward an open end spaced from the base. A flexible resilient liner is captured within the peripheral wall of the housing, and has a flange extending through the open end of the housing peripheral wall. A flow tip has a body captured within the liner and an outer end extending through the open end of the housing peripheral wall and through the flange of the flexible resilient liner. The flow tip has at least two fluid flow passages disposed within the liner, and a circumferential channel underlying the flange and interconnecting ends of the passages. Pressure applied to the flange by fluid in the passages and channel expands the flange away from the flow tip and channel to permit egress of fluid from the channel, and removal of such pressure allows resilient collapse of the flange over the channel to seal the passages.

  • Patent number: 6767494
Abstract: A plunger rod for a syringe in is of integrally injection molded plastic construction having an elongated body with a coaxial end portion. An external thread extends around the end portion for threaded receipt into a plunger tip that is slidably received in a syringe barrel. A flat extends chordally across the end portion of the rod body interrupting the external thread. The plastic, of which the plunger rod is molded, is gated into the mold for the plunger rod at the flat that extends across the rod end portion, leaving a gate mark or vestige on the flat. Gating of the plastic material into the portion of the mold that forms the threaded end portion of the plunger rod achieves improved flow and improved filling of the external thread, while employing a simple and economical mold construction. The gate vestige does not interfere with threading of the plunger rod end portion into the plunger tip.
