    Abstract: The present invention concerns a process for manufacturing a porous carbonaceous monolith structure comprising the steps of (i) introducing a precursor material comprising particles comprising a halogenated polymer having a melting point in a mold; (ii) forming a shaped body comprising aggregates of the particles of the precursor material, by concurrently applying to the precursor material a pressure P ranging from 10 to 300 bars when the halogenated polymer is a vinylidene chloride homopolymer and from 10 to 150 bars when the halogenated polymer differs from a vinylidene chloride homopolymer, and maintaining the precursor material at a temperature T1 ranging from T1,min=20° C. to T1,max=Tm?50° C. wherein Tm is the melting point of the halogenated polymer, and; (iii) optionally cooling then demolding the shaped body; (iv) introducing the shaped body in a furnace; (v) causing the pyrolysis of the halogenated polymer in the furnace until the porous carbonaceous monolith structure is obtained.

    Abstract: Gas separation unit for separation of a gas component from a process gas stream, said separation unit comprising a stator and a rotor comprising a plurality of sectors, each sector containing a separation device arranged to separate the gas component from the process gas stream which is led into the separation device and each sector being fluidically connected with at least one valve. The valve is a rotary active valve which comprises a rotor open area which is located at the rotor and a stator open area which is located at the stator. The rotor open area and the stator open area can overlap and can be laterally separated from each other by rotation of the rotor relative to the stator. In this way, the valve can at least partially be opened and closed. The extent of overlap of the rotor open area and the stator open area defines the extent of opening and closing of the valve, respectively. The extent of overlap corresponds to the extent of partial opening of the valve.

    Abstract: A method of preparing cocoa oligomeric procyanidins from cocoa cell cultures grown in the presence of monosaccharide can increase production of procyanidins as follows: culturing cells sufficient to result in production of cocoa oligomeric procyanidins at a first rate; and introducing a monosaccharide to the cells sufficient for inducing the cells to produce the cocoa oligomeric procyanidins at a second rate that his higher than the first rate. The method can further include extracting the cocoa oligomeric procyanidins from the cells, and such extracting can occur between 1 day to 21 days after introduction of the monosaccharide. Optionally, the monosaccharide can be introduced in an amount about 0.5% to about to about 20% by volume of the culture medium. The monosaccharide can be glucose, sucrose, fructose, or the like. The monosaccharide can be introduced during or after a last phase of an exponential growth state.

    Abstract: A dual temperature electric hair curling iron has a barrel rotatable relative to a rigid handle by means of a friction clutch therebetween. The barrel includes a plurality of apertures allowing steam or mist generated within the barrel to flow into contact with the hair being curled. An electric heater in the barrel is controlled by a low limit (220.degree. F.) thermostat and a high limit (270.degree. F.) thermostat located within the barrel. A normally open momentary contact switch manually operated by a ring-like arm encompassing the a front portion of the handle is arranged in circuit with the thermostats and heater in such a manner that the low limit thermostat controls the temperature of the barrel when the switch is in its normal open position. Closing of the switch by movement of the arm relative to the handle disables the low limit thermostat and allows the barrel temperature to increase to the limit set by the high limit thermostat thereby allowing tighter curls to be produced.

The base has a heating plate with a configuration which is complementary to the inner surface of the pan whereby the pan is adapted to be supported thereon in an inverted position in heat exchange contact therewith during the cooking of a crepe on the outer surface thereof. The crepe pan may also be supported on the heating plate in an upright position for cooking other foods in a conventional manner. The crepe pan is provided with an insulated handle and the heating plate is provided with a heating element which is controlled by an adjustable thermostat switch.
