    Abstract: Systems and methods for storage pruning can enable users to delete, edit, or copy backed up data that matches a pattern. Storage pruning can enable fine-grain deletion or copying of these files from backups stored in secondary storage devices. Systems and methods can also enable editing of metadata associated with backups so that when the backups are restored or browsed, the logical edits to the metadata can then be performed physically on the data to create a custom restore or a custom view. A user may perform operations such as renaming, deleting, modifying flags, and modifying retention policies on backed up items. Although the underlying data in the backup may not change, the view of the backup data when the user browses the backup data can appear to include the user's changes. A restore of the data can cause those changes to be performed on the backup data.

For example, the improved CI system may include a distributed architecture of client computing devices, media agents, a single backup and CI database, and a pool of servers. After a file backup occurs, the backup and CI database may include file metadata indices and other information associated with backed up files. Servers in the pool of servers may, in parallel, query the backup and CI database for a list of files assigned to the respective server that have not been content indexed. The servers may then request a media agent to restore the assigned files from secondary storage and provide the restored files to the servers. The servers may then content index the received restored files. Once the content indexing is complete, the servers can send the content index information to the backup and CI database for storage.

    Abstract: A content analysis system of an information management system can analyze data for one or more data governance tasks. The content analysis system can reduce the overhead on the information management system when identifying sensitive data by analyzing a portion of the data in the file without analyzing the entirety of the file. The content analysis system may reduce overhead by analyzing a portion of files that include structured data. If the portion of the file that includes structured data does not include sensitive data, it is often the case that the entire file excludes sensitive data. Thus, overhead can be reduced by analyzing the portion of the file instead of the entire file. Further, the content analysis system can modify an information management job based on the determination of the inclusion of sensitive data to comply with data protection and privacy rules.

    Abstract: A method and system for migrating data and metadata from a first backup system to a second backup system via a content staging system is disclosed. The system accesses the backup data from the first backup system and restores it, along with the associated metadata, to a staging system. A metadata file is created at the staging system which comprises of the metadata that is to be migrated to the second backup system. The system then migrates the data from the staging system to the second backup system. The metadata is also migrated to the second backup system in a format such that it can be indexed. As a result, the migrated data can be browsed and searched based on one or more search criteria based on the associated metadata. Other details are provided herein.
