  • Patent number: 5045522
Abstract: Hydrogen sulfide is removed from a fluid stream containing hydrogen sulfide by contacting the fluid stream under suitable absorbing conditions with an absorbing composition comprising zinc titanate, alumina and silica promoted with a metal selected from the group consisting of phosphorus, tungsten, molybdenum, metals of Group VIII of the Periodic Table, and mixtures of any two or more thereof. An absorbing composition and a process for producing such absorbing composition are also disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 27, 1990
Date of Patent: September 3, 1991
    Assignee: Phillips Petroleum Company
    Inventor: Dennis R. Kidd
  • Patent number: 4990318
Abstract: Hydrogen sulfide is removed from a fluid stream containing hydrogen sulfide and less than 500 ppm of free hydrogen by contacting the fluid stream under suitable absorbing conditions with an absorbing composition consisting essentially of a base material and nickel oxide. Said base material is selected from the group consisting of zinc oxide and zinc titanate, preferably combined with alumina.

  • Patent number: 4888316
Abstract: An active hydrotreating catalyst composition is prepared by a process comprising the steps of (a) grinding a spent hydrotreating catalyst containing carbonaceous deposits, (b) mixing the ground spent catalyst with an alumina-containing material (preferably alumina), (c) shaping (preferably extruding) the mixture of ground spent catalyst and alumina-containing material and (d) heating the shaped mixture so as to burn off carbonaceous deposits on the ground spent catalyst component. The thus-prepared active hydrotreating catalyst is used in a process for hydrotreating hydrocarbon containing feed streams (oils) which contain metal impurities.

  • Patent number: 4850478
Abstract: A carrier for a plurality of narrow-neck, tapered containers is formed from a carrier blank comprises of a single sheet which is folded to define a rectangular tubular configuration, the dimensions of the carrier being such that it does not increase the volume occupied by the containers which it supports and such that the major portion of each container is exposed to view and so that the main body portion is substantially completely exposed to view. The carrier blank is provided with openings, each of which lockingly receive the neck of a container, the containers and the carrier cooperating with one another to retain the containers in the locked position relative to the carrier and the carrier being maintained in its fully erected condition. The dimensions and locations of the openings provided in the carton blank serve to releasably lock the carrier and containers to one another and further prevent the containers, when arranged in side-by-side pairs, from swinging freely, especially when being transported.

  • Patent number: 4758330
Abstract: A composition of matter comprising alumina as the major component and silica as a minor component is prepared by a process comprising sequential addition of solutions of aluminum salt and alkali metal aluminate, addition of a solution of alkali metal silicate to dispersed alumina hydrogel and heating formed alumina-silica hydrogel under dehydrating conditions. The thus prepared composition of matter, optionally promoted with at least one transition metal compound, can be used as a catalyst for hydrotreating substantially liquid hydrocarbon-containing feed streams which also contain sulfur and metal compounds as impurities.

  • Patent number: 4402788
Abstract: In the bleaching of wood pulp using the conventional CEH sequence with subsequent oxidation stages, the third stage (H) is replaced by peroxide oxidation (P) to a brightness level of 35-50 GE. Final brightness levels of 70-88 GE are attained using no greater amounts of chemicals in the subsequent stages than are required in the conventional CEHDH process. The temperature in the P stage is between 120.degree. and 170.degree. F.
