Each cavity resonator has the same three orthogonal resonances modes corresponding to three unique resonance frequencies. The three unique resonance frequencies define the passbands of the filter. The filter has an input probe coupled to an input cavity resonator. The filter has an output probe coupled to an output cavity resonator. The input and output probes are shaped to concurrently couple signal waveforms in each of the resonance modes. Coupling probes that can be used as input or output probes are also provided. An inter-cavity coupling operable to concurrently transmit signal waveforms in each of the resonance modes is also provided. The inter-cavity coupling can be used to transmit signals between adjacent cavity resonators in the filter.

A resonating structure extending upwardly from the bottom surface of the enclosure and a tuning screw with a flat head extending downwardly from the top surface of the enclosure, wherein the resonating structure and the flat head of the screw face each other and form a gap. The height of the tuning screw can be adjusted to change the gap between the resonating structure and the flat head. The adjustable gap of the present filter allows for tunable filter operation.

    Abstract: This invention provides novel combline resonators with multiple conductors and multiple dielectrics for compact filters and multiplexers with improved electric response. The novel combline resonator consists of multi-conductors being made up for the simplest case of an inner metallic post, an intermediate conductor, and an enclosure. This structure provides two resonant modes that can be used for realizing compact microwave filters and multiplexers. Such filters offer the low cost, compact size and ease of manufacturing features of traditional combline resonator filters, with additional size reduction due to the fact that a single physical cavity provides two electrical resonators. In addition, the new cavity inherently introduces a transmission zero in the guard-bands enhancing the filter selectivity.

    Abstract: A vibration-based power generator has a variable stiffness oscillator connected to a base. The oscillator comprises an inertial mass moving relative to the base in response to vibrations. The oscillator has a neutral position corresponding to a position of the oscillator when no vibrations are transmitted to the base. The oscillator has a first position where the mass is at a first distance and a second position where the inertial mass is at a second distance from a position of the mass when the oscillator is in neutral position. The second distance is greater than the first distance. A stiffness of the oscillator at the second position is greater than a stiffness of the oscillator at the first position. A transducer generating electric power in response to movement of the inertial mass is associated with the oscillator. A method of optimizing a vibration-based power generator is also presented.

The structure of the quad-mode cylinder can be simplified by cutting lengthwise along its central axis to produce a half-cut cylinder suitable for operation in either a dual-mode or a dual-band. Dual-mode, 2n-pole filters are realizable using this half-cut cylinder. Dual-band filters and diplexers are further realizable using the half-cut structure and full cylinder by carrying separate frequency bands on different resonant modes of the structure.

By integrating a three dimensional waveguide with a MEMS structure, the components can be small in size with good operating characteristics.
