  • Patent number: 7630827
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for the characteristic map-based obtention of values for at least one control parameter of an installation, particularly an internal combustion engine. According to the inventive method, support points for the control parameter, which provide a value for the control parameter, are defined across a range of operational parameters within a characteristic map (4) in accordance with operational parameters of the installation, the range of operational parameters covered in said characteristic map is divided into a first and a second subdomain which comprises several of the support points, and the value for the control parameter is obtained by extrapolation when a boundary of the first subdomain is reached before the value for the control parameter is obtained by accessing support points of the second subdomain.

  • Patent number: 7139657
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for adapting an injection valve characteristic curve of a controlled fuel injection valve for an internal combustion engine, said curve reflecting the reference injection behaviour, to alterations in the actual injection behaviour caused by ageing. According to said method: during an operating mode of the internal combustion engine, which does not require an injection of fuel, the injection valve is intermittently controlled in accordance with a control period, said mode alternating with a period of no fuel injection, i.e. at least one working cycle with injection-valve control follows or precedes a working cycle without injection-valve control; at least one respective RPM value of the internal combustion engine is detected for the controlled working cycle and for at least one of the working cycles without control; a differential between the detected values is calculated and said differential is used to correct the characteristic curve.

  • Patent number: 7110875
Abstract: In fuel reservoir injection systems also known as common rail fuel-injection systems (1) for motor vehicles the problem exists that for a defined quantity of fuel that is about to be injected it is necessary to take into account not only the predominant pressure of the fuel but also its temperature. It is difficult to install and use a temperature sensor to detect the fuel temperature. The invention therefore proposes a method and a device for determining the temperature (T) from the pressure (P) measured by the pressure sensor (4) and the sound-propagation velocity (V) of a shock wave triggered at the moment of injection.

  • Patent number: 7096111
Abstract: With a method for converting a fuel quantity (MF) into a torque (TQ) in an internal combustion engine, the efficiency (H) of the internal combustion engine is determined at the current operating point prior to the conversion as the ratio of actual torque (TQ) and actual fuel quantity (MF), and the required torque (MF) is determined from the efficiency (H) and the fuel quantity (MF).

  • Patent number: 6885131
Abstract: The invention relates to the return stroke between an actuator and an element. In order to displace the element the actuator (A) is impinged upon by a control voltage (ANS). The control voltage (ANS) is selected in such a manner that it is dependent on the size of return stroke in order to compensate the alteration in the return stroke.

  • Patent number: 6873930
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for detecting the rotational speed of an internal combustion engine (1). According to the invention, a sector wheel (4) connected to a crankshaft (3) is scanned and the duration of the scanning of a sector of a specific size is determined. Correction factors which arc dependent on the working parameters are then extracted from the characteristics in order to correct the measured duration in relation to the rotational speed oscillations occurring periodically during the operation of the internal combustion engine (1).

  • Patent number: 6853201
Abstract: A capacitive actuating element is driven using a control signal of duration T1. This duration T1 is related to prescribed or measured values for charging, discharging and open periods T2, T3 and T4: (T1+T3?T2?T4)?|X| and is compared with a magnitude (limit value |X|). If a magnitude greater than |X| is obtained, then a fault is inferred.
