Publication number: 20170251352Abstract: Mechanisms are provided to enable the identification of a UE in both the cellular network (e.g., a 3GPP network) and the WLAN. In some aspects, the UE is provided with information enabling it to find the transport network layer, TNL, address (e.g., an IP address) of the WT and an identifier of the UE. Using the TNL of the WT, the UE can establish a connection towards the WT (either connectionless or connection oriented) and provide the UE identity. The WT and eNodeB exchange information about the UE ID, and the UE is identified in both the 3GPP network and the WLAN. The WT is a logical node and may be integrated in the eNodeB, in a WLAN node (e.g. access controller, access point), standalone or somewhere else. Once identified, user data can be sent to the UE via the WT.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 23, 2016Publication date: August 31, 2017Inventors: Markus Drevö, Rasmus Axén, Paul Schliwa-Bertling

Patent number: 9736739Abstract: A procedure is disclosed where a user equipment (UE) 10 can share information (with e.g. radio access network (RAN) nodes 20, 30) about its cell mobility attempts (e.g. redirection successes/failures). This information can subsequently be utilized by the various RAN nodes 20, 30 when making subsequent, i.e. future, cell mobility decisions. Hereby it is made possible to improve cell mobility decisions, such as redirection or handover, by the various RAN nodes 20, 30.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 2013Date of Patent: August 15, 2017Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Lena Melin, Håkan Axelsson, Rasmus Axén

Publication number: 20170188248Abstract: A method for evaluating a connection between a first network node and a User Equipment, UE, via a second cell. The first network node serves a first cell. A sending of a first message is initiated. The first message is sent from the first network node to the UE via the second cell. The first message comprises a trigger for the UE to respond by sending a second message comprising feedback relating to the connection to the second cell. A time value difference between the sending of said first message and receiving of said second message in the first network node is obtained. The second message comprises the feedback relating to the connection sent from the UE in response to the first message. Then it is evaluated how the connection shall be used based on the obtained time value difference and the received feedback.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 12, 2015Publication date: June 29, 2017Inventors: Walter MÜLLER, Rasmus AXÉN, Stefan JOHANSSON, Sofia SVEDEVALL

Publication number: 20170099633Abstract: A method in a radio network node for selecting a second SCell of a wireless device. The radio network node sends (201) data to a network node, upon a request to release the wireless device from a first connected state, in which the wireless device is connected to a first PCell and configured with a first SCell. The data indicates the first PCell and the first SCell. The radio network node retrieves (202) the sent data when the wireless device enters a second connected state. Then, the wireless device is connected to a second PCell. The radio network node compares (203) the second PCell with the first PCell and the first SCell. When the second PCell is the same as one of the first PCell and the first SCell, the radio network node selects (204) as the second SCell the other of the first SCell and the first PCell.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2014Publication date: April 6, 2017Applicant: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Rasmus AXÉN, Tobias AHLSTRÖM, Tobias LJUNGSTRÖM

Patent number: 9578577Abstract: A method in a legacy access node for selecting a suitable RAN, of a plurality of RANs for a LTE UE, capable of both PS and CS sessions in a global communication network. The method comprises connecting the UE to a legacy RAN via a radio interface module and then establishing a PS session with the connected UE. The bandwidth that the UE currently is consuming is monitored and compared with a predefined bandwidth threshold. If the consumed bandwidth exceeds the predefined bandwidth threshold an attempt will be made to trigger transferring of the UE from the current legacy RAN to the LTE RAN. A corresponding method is disclosed in a eNodeB where the attempt to trigger transferring of the UE from the LTE RAN to the legacy RAN is made if the consumed bandwidth falls below the predefined threshold. Related legacy access nodes and eNodeBs perform the methods.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2011Date of Patent: February 21, 2017Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Henrik André-Jönsson, Rasmus Axén, Lena Melin
