    Abstract: A venous access port assembly having a housing base with a discharge stem, a septum, and a cap. An interior reservoir is defined by a well in the housing base and the bottom surface of the septum, and a passageway extends from the reservoir through the discharge stem. The cap is secured to the housing base and securely retains the septum in the assembly, compressing an annular flange of the septum against a septum seat of the housing base. Horizontal ribs on the interior of the cap snap into complementary grooves on the side wall of the housing base to mechanically lock together the cap and housing base during curing of the solvent bonding agent. The cap is mechanically secured and bonded to the housing base. Crush ribs on the interior surface of the cap, precisely center the cap about the housing base during assembly and compensating for manufacturing tolerances.

The center channel of the lockable insert is coaxial with the center channel of the collet sleeve. The lockable insert is configured to be placed at a first locking position in which the annular wall of the lockable insert asserts no or minimal radial compression against the plurality of the resilient prongs of the collet sleeve, and the lockable insert is further configured to be moved to a second locking position in which the annular wall of the lockable insert radially compresses the plurality of the resilient prongs of the collet sleeve.

    Abstract: A locking component (100,200,300,400) for locking a catheter proximal end onto a stem (16,56) of a medical device. The locking component has upper and lower parts (104,102;204,202) that self-secure to each other, preferably in a first position partially open but still assembled, and a second position, locked fully together. The locking component has a compression surface (106,206) to compress the catheter lumen wall against the stem at a location axially offset from the protuberance(s) along the stem of the medical device. A method is disclosed for mechanically securing a catheter to a medical device that can involve placing the pre-assembled locking component along the catheter prior to securing the proximal catheter end to the stem of the medical device and then moving the locking component into position around the stem and then pressing it together into its second locked position, compressing the catheter lumen wall against the stem.

The port assembly (100) includes a body (102), a septum (134) for needle insertion, a discharge port (150) having a passageway (154) and to which a catheter proximal end (202) is connected, and a proximal port (170) with a proximal passageway (172,116) that is in line with the discharge port passageway (154). A chamber (118) of the port body (102) fluidly connects the proximal port passageway and the discharge port passageway, and a proximal septum (174) traverses and seals the proximal passageway (172,116). An entry cannula (190) is insertable into the proximal opening and penetrates the proximal septum (174) and extends to the discharge port passageway (154) enabling a guide wire (198) to be inserted therethrough after the port (100) has been connected to the catheter (200), whereafter the entire assembly is implantable into a patient over the guide wire. A method of over-the-wire venous port placement is disclosed, and also a method for assembling the port.
