  • Patent number: 6934853
Abstract: Provided is a method, system, program, and data structures method, system, program, and data structures for configuring a client computer connected to a network, wherein a remote computer is capable of communicating with the client computer over the network. Sets of configuration parameters are stored in a non-volatile storage unit. The sets of configuration parameters instruct at least one program how to initialize operational parameters and load programs into the client computer memory during a power on. For each set of configuration parameters, a token is stored in the non-volatile storage unit indicating access rights to the set of configuration parameters. The token specifies whether management entities running on the remote computer and client computer can access the set of configuration parameters for that token.

  • Patent number: 6463531
Abstract: A method and system for monitoring the boot process of a data processing system. In accordance with the method and system of the present invention, data detailing each operation performed during a boot process of a data processing system is stored within a memory of the data processing system. All the stored data is then displayed in response to a halting of the boot process, such that step-by-step details of the boot process are available to a user prior to operation of the data processing system by an operating system.

  • Patent number: 6366262
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for supporting multiple display sessions through a single address on a non-programmable-terminal (NPT) attached to a host computer by a work station controller (WSC). The WSC enables shared addressing of multiple display sessions on the NPT. The WSC changes focus to a selected one of the multiple display sessions responsive to receiving from the host computer a data stream for a requested display session not having the focus and responsive to receiving a change focus request from the NPT. The NPT may have one display session active for the user interface and a different display session having the focus communicating with the host computer, which is transparent to the user and to the host computer.

  • Patent number: 5990888
Abstract: A data processing system for efficiently manipulating a graphic object displayed within a graphic user interface in the data processing system. The graphic object is defined by interrelated variables. Under the present invention, interrelated variables defining the graphic object are associated with at least one data structure, wherein the each data structure includes a value for at least one of the interrelated variables. An editing object is displayed within the graphic user interface in response to a selection of the graphic object by a user. The user is permitted to alter a value for one of the interrelated variables utilizing the editing object. A value for at least one other variable is automatically altered in response to the user altering the value for one of the interrelated variables utilizing the editing object. A display of the graphic object automatically altered in response to an alteration of the value for the at least one other variable, wherein the graphic object is efficiently manipulated.
