Abstract: The present disclosure provide embodiments of an apparatus and method for selecting a line from two or more lines on a communication device. In accordance with one embodiment of the present disclosure, there is provided a method, comprising: detecting initiation of an outgoing call from a communication device to a target party, the communication device having at least two lines; identifying the target party in contact information; determining which of the at least two lines is associated with the target party; in response to the detecting the initiation of the outgoing call, operating the communication device to make the outgoing call to the target party using the associated line.

Abstract: A method and system are disclosed. An active application, which is an application other than a phone application and an address book application, displays information. A selection is received of an information portion from within the displayed information, the information portion being other than a telephone number. Based on determining the pressing of the call-initiation key while the information portion is selected, and based on accessing contact information stored within the address book application without opening or displaying the address book application, a detected contact entry stored by the address book application is determined where the detected contact entry includes the information portion. A target telephone number associated with the detected contact entry is determined based on determining the detected contact entry. A call to the target telephone number is placed.

Abstract: Embodiments of a system and method for providing a user interface for managing calls received at a mobile device is described. The user interface provides an incoming call screen to the user, where the incoming call screen comprises a caller identification data field for displaying data associated with incoming calls and at least one key label field in which labels for mobile device keys (e.g. send and end keys) are displayed. The area of the caller identification data field is substantially greater than the area of the at least one key label field, enabling more information pertaining to incoming calls to be displayed to the user. In at least one embodiment, this is facilitated by providing user-selectable options for responding to incoming calls in an options menu, which can be accessed by a user but is not initially displayed to the user when an incoming call is first received.

Abstract: A system and method for integrating voice and data operations into a single mobile device capable of simultaneously performing data and voice actions. The mobile device working in a network capable of exchanging both cell phone calls and data items to the mobile device. By wearing an earphone or an ear-bud device the user is capable of dealing with voice conversations while working with data centric information related to the current caller. By providing a data-centric device with voice capabilities there is a new range of features that allow incoming data events to trigger outgoing voice events.

Abstract: An electronic device and a method implemented within the electronic device for disambiguating email recipient fields by extracting sufficient information from the domain portion of an intended recipient's email address to disambiguate between a personal and a business email address. An exemplary method includes parsing at least one of said multiple addresses in a recipient field of the email to extract information capable of distinguishing the at least one of said multiple addresses from at least another of the multiple addresses, and displaying the information in the recipient field of the email.

Abstract: The disclosure is directed to a method, computer program product, mobile device or a system allowing for determining various route metrics based on stored route records associated with routes traversed by the mobile device. The determination of a route metric may utilize processing of a single route record or multiple route records. Exemplary route metrics include route timing metrics such as lap times, or route record metrics. Configurations of computer program products, mobile devices and systems for enabling the determination of various route metrics are also described.

Abstract: An improved handheld electronic device and an associated method provide an improved call log that presents information relating to logged phone calls in a collapsed manner, meaning that for each phone number having a call stored in the memory of the device, only the most recent in time call is listed on the call log. An improved handheld electronic device and an associated method also provide a call history for any phone call from the improved call log that is selected by the user. The call history includes a listing of all of the calls stored by the device that are associated with the selected call log call.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for modifying notification settings on a mobile electronic device is provided, the mobile electronic device comprising a processing unit, a display, a memory, an input device, and at least one notification device. It is determined that the at least one notification device has been activated using a given notification setting. A menu list is responsively changed to include a notification setting change option, the menu list associated with the input device and stored in the memory, such that when the input device is activated, the display is controlled by the processing unit to provide a representation of the menu list such that the notification setting option can be selected and the given notification setting changed.

In response to the direction received from the user, the line selection menu is displayed on the call screen, and an input identifying a user-selected communication line is received. A display field in which data identifying the active line is displayed is updated accordingly.

Abstract: The present disclosure described herein relates to a system and method for managing transaction restrictions for an account in a family of accounts through a network. The method comprises: upon receipt of a transaction request from a device in the network at a server, analyzing a restriction field associated with the account against parameters associated the transaction request. When a transaction price associated with the transaction request exceeds a value in the restriction field or when a transaction entity associated with the transaction request is present as a restricted entity in the restriction field, completion of the transaction is denied. When contents of the restriction field relating to restrictions do not match any of the parameters, completion of the transaction is allowed. The method also updates the restriction field to reflect a change request for the transaction restriction for a subsequent transaction upon receipt of the change request.

Abstract: An electronic device includes an input device, an output device, a memory capable of storing an alert, and a processor coupled with the input device, the output device and the memory. The processor is configured to identify a current time, receive a command to switch the electronic device from a first operating mode to a second operating mode, and identify a record in a data-store. The record stores a first time identifier. The processor is further configured to identify a second time identifier. The processor automatically changes the second time identifier to be sooner than or equal to the first time identifier, automatically switches the electronic device from the second operating mode to the first operating mode when the current time matches the second time identifier, and presents the alert via the output device when the current time matches the first time identifier.

In order to inhibit operation of the wireless communication device when traveling, access to certain device functions or applications such as e-mail, text messaging, etc. are limited by requiring the user of the device to respond correctly to a randomly generated visual challenge, such as, for example, a CAPTCHA (in which a user is prompted to recognize the characters in a visually distorted string of text). This visual challenge presents a sufficient obstacle that the user will be less likely to use the wireless communications device for e-mailing or texting while operating a motor vehicle.
