  • Patent number: 5948575
Abstract: In a process for the manufacture of a multi-color filter array element, for use in color flat panel displays, a multi-layer color photographic material is exposed to printing light, modulated by a master. Instead of varying the conditions of the printing light in order to achieve specified calorimetric characteristics, the filter density of the pixels on the master is established such that a correct color print is obtained under fixed standard printing conditions. A method is disclosed for computing and achieving the required spectral densities on the color print and on the master.

  • Patent number: 5645962
Abstract: A method is provided for manufacturing a multicolor filter array element, firmly associated with a transparent electrode layer in a multicolor liquid crystal display device, comprising the steps of:(i) exposing a silver halide color photographic (print) material comprising a plurality of differently spectrally sensitive silver halide emulsion layers on a glass support, with a single step multicolor pixelwise exposure,(ii) color processing said exposed print material producing thereby in each silver halide emulsion layer a differently colored pixel pattern,(iii) coating said color processed print material at its silver halide emulsion layer assemblage side with a hydrophobic water-impermeable organic resin layer(iv) curing said organic resin layer by heating said layer at temperatures between 100.degree. C. and 250.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 5462822
Abstract: A photographic print material suited for the production of a multicolor filter array element for use in a liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal layer wherein the print material comprises a glass plate supporting on one side thereof (i) a silver halide emulsion layer sensitive to blue light and containing a yellow dye forming color coupler, (ii) a silver halide emulsion layer sensitive to green light and containing a magenta dye forming color coupler, and (iii) a sliver halide emulsion layer sensitive to red light and containing a cyan dye forming color coupler. The red light sensitive emulsion layer is disposed on the side of the array remote from the glass supporting plate and in each of the silver halide emulsion layers the equivalent ratio of silver halide to color coupler is at least 1 and preferably 1.2. A water-impermeable organic resin covering layer is applied over the red light sensitive emulsion layer and a transparent electrode layer is vacuum deposited over the covering layer.

  • Patent number: 5013138
Abstract: In a liquid crystal display wherein a liquid crystal material is contained in a gap defined between two surfaces, at least one of the said facing surfaces of the gap is constructed by a multi-color relief layer obtained by the color-development of a single hydrophilic colloid silver halide emulsion layer. The relief layer has different regions of multiple different thicknesses corresponding to the plurality of colors thereof, the thickness of each such relief region being characteristic of the particular color of that region. Each different relief region contains a dye of the corresponding color derived from a color coupling agent by the color development and a diffusion-resistant colorless compound derived from a colorless coupling agent by said color development. The colorless compound is present in each relief region in an amount which is different from that in each other relief region and is characteristic of that region.

  • Patent number: 4987043
Abstract: Method for the production of a multicolor filter array wherein individual color pixels are delineated by a light absorbing contour pattern, which method comprises the steps of:(a) providing a photosensitive dye receptor material being a photographic silver halide emulsion material incorporating at least one waterpermeable silver halide emulsion layer on a support and containing optionally a mordanting agent suited for fixing dyes in said silver halide emulsion layer and/or in another layer in waterpermeable relationship therewith,(2) depositing pixelwise different dyes or dye precursors compounds wherefrom dyes can be formed by chemical reaction on said photosensitive dye receptor material,(3) photo-exposing said at least one silver halide emulsion layer of said dye receptor material to a light pattern resulting in a latent image in the form of a contour line pattern delineating the individual color pixels obtained in said dye receptor material, and(4) developing said latent image to form in said dye receptor

  • Patent number: 4830941
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of a relief element useful in liquid crystal display panels to control the gap-width of the liquid crystal layer, which process comprises the steps of:(I) pattern-wise photo-exposing a photographic silver halide emulsion material comprising on a support a single gelatin containing silver halide emulsion layer to form a latent pattern of exposed silver halide, and(II) treating the exposed silver halide emulsion layer with an aqueous solution containing a developing agent for said halide in the presence of a colorless coupling agent capable of forming with oxidized developing agent a diffusion resistant colorless reaction product increasing the thickness of said emulsion layer in the exposed regions. The treating step (II) can occur also in the presence of a color developing agent reactive with the oxidized developing agent to form a colored reaction product in the exposed regions.

  • Patent number: 4269923
Abstract: Novel photographic imaging process and materials suitable therefor are provided, which can find their application in multi-color motion picture and simultaneous sound recording, in direct-positive image formation, in image-intensification processes, etc. A photographic silver image is formed in at least one hydrophilic colloid layer of a light-sensitive photographic material incorporating silver halide, by means of exposure and alkaline development steps, followed by bleaching of quantities of silver which are present in areas of said layer extraneous to those where imaging silver is required.
