The lower portion cooperates with the base to define a capture area, and the capture area is sized to receive the bookshelf front edge portion. The adjustable securement mechanism is mounted to the lower portion and is adapted to secure the bookshelf front edge portion in the capture area, thus securing the bookend to the bookshelf.

    Abstract: The invention is directed to a wheel carrier which is adapted to be mounted exclusively to a cross tube of a receiver bracket assembly, which is typically attached to the underside of a motor vehicle and which is used to facilitate attachment of a trailer hitch in the form of a ball mount assembly. The simple manner in which the wheel carrier attaches to the receiver bracket assembly greatly decreases the necessary mounting time and avoids the necessity of drilling holes in the body and/or bumper. The wheel carrier has a carrier member, a wheel support member connected to the carrier member and adapted to support a motor vehicle wheel, and a mounting mechanism for mounting the carrier member exclusively to the cross tube of the receiver bracket assembly. The cross tube typically has a cross-sectional shape which is substantially square.

    Abstract: A heavy duty staple remover 10 for disengaging embedded staples 30 having a concealed back surface 34 and an exposed back surface 32 comprises a handle 12 having a working end 40 and a manipulating end 42 pivotally connected to the handle 12 proximate to their respective working ends. A pair of generally parallel elongate spaced apart anvils 26 are integral with the working end 18 of the handle 12. The anvils 26 being spaced apart to engage substantially the lateral extremes of the concealed back surface 34 of an embedded staple 30. A tongue 42 adapted to engage the exposed back surface 32 of an embedded staple 30 is integral with the working end 40 of the lever 14. When the handle 12 and the lever 14 are in their normal position, the tongue 42 is disposed between the anvils 26 above a plane formed by the anvils 26, but the tongue 42 pivots between the anvils 26 and through the plane formed by the anvils 26 when the lever 14 is pivoted toward the handle 12 to remove a staple.

    Abstract: A bumper mounted spare wheel carrier for a vehicle having a rear door is provided with a latching mechanism for latching the carrier to the rear door of the vehicle so as to secure it during movement. The carrier has a first mounting bracket secured to the rear bumper and a second mounting bracket secured to the rear door of the vehicle. A carrier arm is mounted on the first mounting bracket and is adapted for pivotal movement between a first position latched to the second mounting bracket and a second position extending substantially laterally from the vehicle. A wheel bracket is attached to the carrier arm for holding the wheel. The latching mechanism, also mounted on the carrier arm, is adapted for engagement with the second mounting bracket. As a result, a low cost easy to install bumper mounted wheel carrier is provided which is firmly attached to the vehicle, yet can be easily swung away from the vehicle for removal of the spare wheel or for opening of the rear door.

    Abstract: A spare wheel carrier for vehicles has a channel type support member arranged to be mounted on a vehicle bumper. A channel type tire carrier member is pivotally mounted at its lower end on the support member, with the pivotal axis being offset from the longitudinal center line of the carrier member. The support member has an abutment member at one side and a latching mechanism at the other side. The latching mechanism when tightened urges the carrier member into engagement with the abutment to lock the carrier in stored position. The carrier member is rotatable in a vertical plane and is adapted to be lowered so that the tire mounting means on the carrier member may be moved into registration with a tire resting on the ground in a vertical position.

    Abstract: A step assembly for use on step bumpers of automotive vehicles includes a pair of mounting brackets adapted to be secured to a bumper, a lower step supported by said brackets and an upper step hingedly connected to and superposed on said bumper. Each of the brackets has a slot substantially in the form of an inverted J. The lower step has laterally extending pins which are received in the slots, thereby mounting the step for sliding and swinging movement between an operative position in which the tread of the lower step is disposed in close proximity to the bottom of the bumper, and an inoperative position in which the tread is disposed in overlying relation to the bumper. The lower step may be easily assembled with or removed from the brackets.

The carrier includes a spring biased latch element which secures the carrier in vertical position. A resilient operating lever secured to the latch element is deformable under stress and when maintained in stressed condition provides a positive safety lock for the latch element independent of the spring biasing means. Novel wheel retaining means cooperating with the carrier selectively secure different sizes of wheels on the carrier.

    Abstract: A wheel and tire carrier for attachment to a variety of different motor vehicle doors having differently arranged and spaced hinges and different width doors. The carrier has a tubular frame member which is generally U-shaped and which has curved extensions. The extensions being axially and rotatably adjustable relative to the frame member so that they may be secured to the hinges of the door with the side of the frame member secured to the side of the door adjacent the front edge of the door. The frame member supports a bracket which is pivotally supported on the frame member so that the bracket may be moved to its non-use position within the frame member for shipment and storage and moved and locked to its in-use position at right angles to the frame member.

    Abstract: Means for detachably securing a plurality of supporting legs to a horizontal member, such as a table top or the like to support same, with the horizontal member having right-angled corners and with the legs positioned at the corners, the means comprising a diagonal connecting member positioned between adjacent sides of the corner and fixedly secured thereto, the diagonal connecting member supporting an adjustable member which is rotatable with respect to said diagonal connecting member. A pressure member is positioned between the adjustable member and the leg so that when the adjustable member is rotated inwardly in the direction of the leg, the pressure member applies pressure against the sides of the leg, opposite the sides positioned at the adjacent corner of same so that a uniform pressure is applied against all sides of the leg to detachably secure same.
