  • Patent number: 4679357
Abstract: A method of displacing or feeding the honing tool of a honing machine dur long stroke honing when machining workpiece bores. Rapid displacement feeding or and subsequent machining displacement or stock removal feeding are effected with only a single motor employed in common for different operation, which is controlled in such a way that during rapid feeding or displacement it operates at high speed and low limiting angular momentum or torque limit. Due to the low angular momentum or torque limit during rapid displacement, the speed is rapidly reduced when the honing stones come to rest agianst the bore wall. The control mechanism thereupon reverses the single motor, returns the honing stones by a small amount, and changes over to the machining or stock removal feeding process, which is accomplished at low motor speed and high limiting angular momentum. When a pretermined finished size has been achieved, a displacement control mechanism returns the honing tool to its starting position.

  • Patent number: 4256999
Abstract: A control system for the stroke limitation of a machine tool element in which the element is connected with the slider of a potentiometer so that the voltage on the potentiometer slider varies in a respective direction with each direction of movement of the tool element. A pair of adjustable resistors are provided which form voltage sources with voltages conforming substantially to that of the potentiometer slider at the desired points of reversal of the tool element. The slider voltage is compared with the voltage at the adjustable resistors and the tool element is reversed when the slider voltage bears a predetermined relation to the voltage with which it is compared. A selectively adjustable delay could also be provided to delay the reversing of the tool element at at least one of the limits of travel thereof.

  • Patent number: 4173847
Abstract: A feeding device, especially for a honing tool, in which a frame is formed with a cylinder having a piston mounted therein and to which is connected a spindle or feed rod having the tools mounted thereon. The piston will effect rapid advance and retraction of the feed rod while the connection of the piston to the feed rod embodies threaded means which can be adjusted incrementally or manually to effect fine feeding movement of the tools following the rapid advance thereof. Automatic control means are provided for controlling the incremental feeding of the tools and for compensating for tool wear.

  • Patent number: 4122379
Abstract: An analogue control device with at least one electric stroke control emitter for the abutment-free stroke limitation of machine tools, especially honing machines, with which either a tool carrier or the workpiece connected to the machine tool carries out a reciprocatory stroke of adjustable length. As stroke control emitter there is provided a simple resistor which is adjustable in conformity with the machining movement and which is passed through by electric current, while pre-set values of the current or of the voltage generated by the current on the resistor are employed for limiting the stroke. The device also includes a warming-up or conditioning control which makes it possible automatically to carry out a predetermined number of working strokes with changed stroke length, the number and/or stroke length being adjustable.
