  • Patent number: 7402010
Abstract: A machine tool for cutting a profile in a rotating workpiece has a body centered having an elongated edge formed with an angularly extending row of seats each having a radially directed seat face and an axially directed seat face. Respective Z-shaped holders in the seats each have an outer part, an inner part parallel thereto, and a flexible middle part transversely connecting the inner and outer parts. Respective fasteners releasably fixing the inner parts to the body against relative movement. Respective cutting are fixed on the outer parts of the holders. An adjustment wedge between one of the seat faces and the respective holder face is displaceable to shift the outer part of the respective holder relative to the body and transversely of the respective one seat face.

  • Publication number: 20060002779
Abstract: Disclosed is a disk-shaped or strip-shaped tool for cutting machining, particularly for cutting profiles on a workpiece, such as a crankshaft which is moved in a rotating manner during machining. Said tool comprises several cutting inserts (11) which are radially clamped to a tool base holder (10) on the peripheral side or edge side thereof. At least one cutting insert (11) is fixed to a cassette-shaped support (12). Said cassette-shaped support (12) can be displaced in an axial direction in the area of the surface which supports the cutting insert (11) by means of a displacement wedge (13) and/or in a radial direction by means of another displacement wedge (33).

  • Patent number: 6374472
Abstract: To improve a metal-cutting process for machining cylindrical contours, especially eccentric cylindrical contours on a workpiece mounted to rotate about a longitudinal axis, especially with eccentric crankshaft bearings using a lathe tool, producing a finished contour that either has end measures of satisfactory surface quality or has oversize for finish machining such as grinding or dressing, so that while maintaining or enhancing surface quality and maintaining or enhancing dimensional accuracy, machining times are reduced and overall economic efficiency is raised, the invention proposes that the tools tipped with cutting inserts, especially throw-away cutting inserts, are engaged successively or even simultaneously and that at least one part of the cutting inserts is guided in relation to the workpiece at an effective cutting angle (&ggr;f) between −5° and +5° and/or a positive tool back wedge angle (&ggr;p).

  • Patent number: 6227772
Abstract: The invention relates to a cutting insert (10) with 8 usable cutting edges and with large longitudinal surfaces, each comprising a protruding rib (20) in the center along their longitudinal axes. The cutting edges (13) defining said longitudinal surfaces form an angle of 70°<(90°−&bgr;)<90° with their respective ends and the short rounded edges (14) of the upper and lower surfaces (11, 12). According to the invention, milling tools are fitted with a plurality of such cutting inserts.

  • Patent number: 6146063
Abstract: A cutting insert for milling has a generally perpendicular cutting face that is peripherally bounded by respective main cutting edges and has free faces set at a positive angle and having common edges forming auxiliary cutting edges. The insert has a positive cutting angle and the cutting face has in the region of an adjacent main cutting edge forming a cutting corner a flat or recess which extends into both adjacent main cutting edges.

  • Patent number: 6050757
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and a device for machining of workpieces (10) like crankshafts or similar components which are rotated about their own axis during machining, at least two mutually independently operating rotary milling tools (15, 16, 21, 22) performing material-removing operations simultaneously at different points on the workpiece. In order to maximize the edge life of the tools used, with special regard to the most uniform wear possible on all the rotary milling tools, it is proposed that the rotation speed of the tools be matched or varied to provide an optimum cutting operation and the rotation speed of the second and any other rotary milling tool be controlled dependently upon the tool rotation speed predetermined by the matching or variation.
