  • Patent number: 11910352
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for supporting mobility of users with seamless connectivity in a network of moving things. A controller may be used to manage mobility of a plurality of end-user devices in a network of moving things. A request to establish a wireless connection with a network of moving things may be received from an end-user device, via a first access point of the network. A communication parameter for the end-user device may be determined, with the communication parameter configured for use in enabling wireless communication via the network. The determining includes assigning the communication parameter to the end-user device if the end-user device is not known to the controller, and retrieving the communication parameter if the end-user device is known to the controller. The communication parameter is then sent to the end-user device that transmitted the request.

  • Patent number: 11419044
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for use of adaptive and dynamic Wi-Fi® scanning policies in a network of moving things. A vehicle-based network node may be configured to obtain, during operations in an area of a network of moving things, context-related data associated with the vehicle, and to manage Wi-Fi® scanning based on the context-related data. The managing may include determining based on the context-related data, when to scan for Wi-Fi® access points, and when scanning, selecting based on the context-related data, at least one Wi-Fi® scan policy, and configuring Wi-Fi® scanning based on the at least one Wi-Fi® scan policy. A cloud-based network node may be configured to receive from network nodes in the vehicle communication network Wi-Fi® connectivity-related data, and to generate or update, based on processing of the Wi-Fi® connectivity-related data, at least one Wi-Fi® scanning decision model for optimizing Wi-Fi® scanning operations in mobile network nodes.

  • Patent number: 11160016
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for managing mobility of users in a network of moving things. At an access point of a plurality of access points in the network of moving things, a wireless connection may be established using a radio frequency (RF) interface of the first access point, configured for communication of first end-user data by a first end-user device. Quality of communication with the first end-user device may then be assessed, based on at least one quality related parameter, and when the quality of communication fails to meet a particular quality criterion based on the at least one quality related parameter, quality of communication of the end-user device with each of one or more other access points may be evaluated, a particular other access point may be selected, and a request to handle communication of the first end-user data may be transmitted to the selected access point.

  • Patent number: 11122492
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for managing the routing and replication of data in the upload direction in a network of moving things. At a first node of a network including a plurality of nodes, wireless communication may be established with one or more other nodes of the plurality of nodes, and node related information associated with the first node and at least one other node may be obtained. The node related information may relate to node physical location, node movement, node wireless communication link performance, and/or identity of node resident data. When a data bundle is available for processing, based on the node related information and a set of rules for the first node for a direction of communication of the data bundle, one action supported by the first node may be selected and preformed, with the action including transmitting, storing, or dropping the data bundle.
