  • Publication number: 20190080019
Abstract: Systems, methods, devices, and techniques for improving the efficiency of selecting digital components to present in electronic documents and reducing latency in rendering digital components in electronic documents. In some implementations, a content distribution system uses predicted metrics for a set of candidate components to determine items to present in an electronic document responsive to a request. A metric prediction model can generate predicted metrics with the aid of a parameter prediction sub-model that predicts a value of a non-observable parameter associated with a request for a digital component.

Abstract: A fluidic device for providing analogue output control includes a main channel, a first control channel, a second control channel, a comparator which receives respective input fluid flows from the main, the first and the second control channels. The first control channel is configured such that the input fluid flow therefrom carries an oscillating pressure wave signal, the second control channel includes a flow regulator controllable to vary the mass flow rate of the input fluid flow from the second control channel, and the main channel is configured such that the input fluid flow therefrom is at a reference mass flow rate. The comparator is configured such that the input fluid flows from the first control and the second control channels act in combination on the input fluid flow from the main channel to produce an output fluid flow from the comparator having a PWM mass flow rate characteristic.

  • Publication number: 20190005191
Abstract: Work described herein reveals 3D regulatory landscapes of hESCs representative of early human development. This work also demonstrates that cohesin-associated CTCF loops, and the cohesin-associate enhancer-promoter loops within them, dominate the organization of TADs. The CTCF-CTCF loops form a chromosomal scaffold of insulated neighborhoods that are largely preserved in vertebrates, and enhancer-promoter interactions occur within these neighborhoods. Genes are regulated in the context of conserved insulated neighborhood structures. Loss of neighborhood structures occurs frequently in cancer cells, and proto-oncogenes can be activated by genetic alterations that disrupt specific 3D chromosome structures.

  • Patent number: 10108972
Abstract: Aspects of this invention are directed toward determining the effectiveness of advertising in a virtual universe. Specifically, under the present invention, a visit by an avatar to a region of the VU that includes targeted advertising content is registered. Then, the following avatar attributes are determined: a proximity to the target advertising content by the avatar; an avatar directionality of the avatar with respect to the target advertising content; a camera directionality of a camera object associated with the avatar; and a time with respect to which the avatar may be exposed to the target advertising content in the region. Thereafter, at least one score is assigned to the visit, the proximity, the directionality, and the time. An effectiveness score is then calculated based on the at least one score. The overall effectiveness of the target advertising content is then calculated based on the at least one score.

  • Patent number: 9828039
Abstract: Impact protection structures for vehicles are described. An impact protection structure includes a support structure of the vehicle, an interior rail coupled to the support structure, and an exterior rail coupled to the interior rail. The exterior rail has an inboard boundary wall positioned between an upper mounting region and a lower mounting region. The upper and the lower exterior mounting region of the exterior rail are coupled to an upper and a lower mounting region of the interior rail. At least a portion of the inboard boundary wall is spaced apart from an outboard wall of the interior rail such that when the exterior rail is impacted by a blunt-object barrier, the inboard boundary wall of the exterior rail deforms, thereby damping energy of the impact at the exterior rail and arresting crack propagation between the exterior rail and the interior rail.
