  • Publication number: 20190173428
Abstract: An array of magnetic nanoparticle (MNP) spin torque oscillators (STOs) is described. Each STO is comprised of a uniform, chemically synthesized, spherical nanoparticle which couples to current flowing along a surface. The particles are organized into an array by a self-assembly technique with uniform spacing and close proximity to allow strong electrical and magnetic coupling between particles. The coupling of the nanoparticles to the surface current drives the oscillations by spin-torque, and for phase locking and data input. The uniform, spherical shape of the particles allows the oscillations to be achieved at low currents and with low power dissipation. The MNP-STOs may be used as a basis for massively parallel computing, microwave oscillators, or other applications.

  • Publication number: 20190010061
Abstract: A treated water indicating system and method are described. The water indicating system includes a water treatment unit and a tap. The water treatment unit receives water. The tap includes an indicator light. The indicator light is configured to produce a visible indication of a state of the water treatment unit, in which the indicator light operates in a first mode to produce a visible indication that the water treatment unit is in a first state producing acidic water. Additionally, the indicator light operates in a second mode to produce a visible indication that the water treatment unit is in a second state producing ionized alkaline water. Furthermore, the indicator light operates in a third mode to produce a visible indication that the water treatment unit is in a third state producing ionized purified water. The tap is configured to be coupled to the water treatment unit.

  • Publication number: 20180336921
Abstract: Narrow band dwell occurs when air bearings corresponding to a set of read and/or write heads within a hard disc drive remain within a fixed narrow band of one or more storage platters for an extended period of time. The air bearings displace lubricant on the storage platters and may redeposit the lubricant as droplets on the platters. The presently disclosure technology is directed to monitoring a hard disc drive for narrow band dwell, and in some implementations, implementing operations to mitigate narrow band dwell. More specifically, the presently disclosure technology may detect an overflying air-bearing slider position, apply a lubrication film displacement formula to a narrow band of the storage platter, apply a lubrication film reflow formula to one or more other narrow bands of the storage platter, and track lubrication film thickness over time in each of the narrow bands of the storage platter.

  • Patent number: 10081950
Abstract: A guard rail system that is assembled from a kit of components that includes bottom rails, top rails and balusters and U-shaped top rail inserts that fit into the underside of the top rails. The tops of the balusters are inserted through the spaced apart holes in the base of the insert. The top rail has a body and a pair of spaced apart legs extending downward from the body. After the system has been assembled the legs engage the uprights of the top rail insert to create a compression fit between the top rail insert and the tops of the balusters.

  • Publication number: 20180036284
Abstract: Biologically active compounds that can be used as photosensitizers for diagnostic and therapeutic applications, particularly for PDT of cancer, infections and other hyperproliferative diseases, fluorescence diagnosis and PDT treatment of a non-tumorous indication such as arthritis, inflammatory diseases, viral or bacterial infections, dermatological, opthamological or urological disorders are provided as well as providing methods to obtain them in pharmaceutical quality. One embodiment consists of a method to synthesize a porphyrin with a defined arrangement of meso-substituents and then converting this porphyrin system to a chlorin system by dihydroxylation or reduction, and if more than one isomer is formed separate them by chromatography either on normal or reversed phase silica. In another embodiment the substituents on the porphyrin are selected to direct the reduction or dihydroxylation to the chlorin so that a certain isomer is selectively formed.

  • Patent number: 9847783
Abstract: A scalable circuit architecture for programmable circuitry is provided. Intellectual property (IP) blocks may be integrated into a circuit design and may be formed next to programmable logic sectors on which user logic functions are implemented. IP blocks may receive configuration data from sub-system managers (SSMs) that serve as a local configuration source for the IP blocks. Configurable endpoints in the IP blocks may be represented by memory mapped addresses that may be decoded by pipeline decoders having delay elements that prevent read data collision. A reroute layer may serve as an interface between IP blocks and one or more programmable logic sectors. The reroute layer may have a higher number of connections at a logic sector interface compared to the number of connections at an IP block interface. An IP block may route clock signals having different frequencies to respective different rows or regions in the programmable logic sectors.

  • Publication number: 20170276835
Abstract: Embodiments relate to leads and polynyas forecasting. Initially observed ice forecast data is obtained for a geographic area of interest, which is then used to generate an ice grid based on the observed ice data, where the ice grid includes grid cells that map polar regions. At this stage, daily opening rates are determined based on the ice grid, where each daily opening rate indicates an opening speed of a corresponding ice event, and daily convergence strain rates are determined based on the ice grid, where each daily convergence strain rate indicates a convergence of the corresponding ice event. For each day, a daily opening rate is weighted and then adjusting by a daily convergence strain rate. A forecasted opening rate on a target date is determined based on the weighted, adjusted daily opening rates. Predicted openings of the polar region can be rendered based on the forecasted opening rate.
