  • Publication number: 20080209824
Abstract: A method is provided for attenuating sound transmitted through a building structure. The method includes marketing an insulation product for installation in a cavity in the building structure wherein the insulation product has a thickness T greater than the depth D of the cavity. The insulation product is then compressed between the first and second covering members or materials. The insulation product produces a sound damping force upon the covering material.

  • Patent number: 5787677
Abstract: A garage door insulation system includes a garage door having a major surface, an insulation layer of mineral fiber insulating material having a major surface, and an asphalt layer positioned between the major surfaces of the garage door and the insulation layer. The asphalt layer provides sound damping for the garage door. Preferably the asphalt layer acts as an adhesive to bond the insulation layer to the garage door. In a preferred embodiment, the major surface of the garage door is contoured, and the asphalt layer and insulation layer are deformable to the contour of the garage door.

  • Patent number: 5284700
Abstract: Mineral fibers, and products (e.g., building insulation products) formed of mineral fibers are treated, and thus rendered fire-resistant, by placing a phosphate-containing compound onto or in close proximity to the mineral fibers. The phosphate-containing compound is at least one which forms a high-temperature protective coating or layer on the surfaces of the mineral fibers. A preferred product of the invention will include two mineral wool layers with a septum carrying the phosphate-containing compound interposed therebetween. Exemplary phosphate-containing compounds include monoammonium phosphate, diammonium phosphate, dicalcium phosphate, monocalcium phosphate, phosphoric acid, aluminum phosphate, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, tetrapotassium pyrophosphate, sodium hexametaphosphate, potassium tripolyphosphate, sodium tripolyphosphate, ammonium polyphosphate, monosodium dihydrogen phosphate, and mixtures thereof.
