  • Publication number: 20080177770
Abstract: Method, system, and program product for configuring and using a federated database and data structure management system with error prone data. The design of the metadata and queries includes the steps of first determining schema and metadata configurations of the data source servers. The next step is enumerating available resources, and enumerating security and confidentiality requirements. These are used for calculating an optimal federated database management system design based on the schema and metadata, the enumerated available resources, and the enumerated security and confidentiality requirements; and designing an optimal federated database management system with provision for exception detection and error handling.

  • Publication number: 20080114779
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for creating optimized sub-projects for a project. Boundary conditions, input regarding output objects, and input regarding “as-is” data sources are received. The output objects are decomposed into data objects and logical processes used to create the output objects. Value clusters are determined. The data objects are organized into “to be” data structures and the “to be” which are mapped to the “as-is” data sources. Additional processes are determined for moving data from a source to a target. An affinity matrix is created based on the value clusters. Finally, an optimization operation is executed with an optimization engine to produce the optimized sub-projects. The optimization engine takes as inputs the above information.

  • Publication number: 20080082356
Abstract: A computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer usable program code for automatically selecting an optimal control cohort. Attributes are selected based on patient data. Treatment cohort records are clustered to form clustered treatment cohorts. Control cohort records are scored to form potential control cohort members. The optimal control cohort is selected by minimizing differences between the potential control cohort members and the clustered treatment cohorts.

  • Publication number: 20080077463
Abstract: A computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer usable program code for finding skills and resources for a chaotic event. Skills data for the chaotic event are organized. A determination is made whether the skills and the resources are available in response to a receiving an identification of the skills and the resources that are required to manage the chaotic event. The skills and the resources are optimized based on requirements and constraints, potential skills, and enabling resources to determine optimized skills and optimized resources. The availability of the optimized skills and the optimized resources are verified. The optimized skills and the optimized resources are reoptimized in response to a determination that the optimized skills and the optimized resources are unavailable.

  • Publication number: 20070112748
Abstract: A system and method for processing a document to generate a set of related documents. A system is provided that includes a textual analytics system that analyzes unstructured data contained in a source document and extracts a set of structured information about the source document; and a compare system that identifies a set of related documents by comparing the set of structured information with metadata indexed from a set of publications.

  • Publication number: 20070112833
Abstract: A system and method for enhancing patent documents. A system is disclosed that includes: an extraction system for extracting non-patent references from a patent document; a system for cross-referencing an extracted non-patent reference with a metadata database to identify metadata information associated with the extracted non-patent reference; and a system for annotating the patent document with the metadata information.

  • Publication number: 20070073654
Abstract: Methods, systems and computer program products for synthesizing diagnoses stored in healthcare databases are provided. A diagnosis query associated with a single patient or a group of patients is received. Query results are provided responsive to the diagnosis query. The query results may include diagnoses from multiple sources that are expressed in multiple standards formats.

  • Patent number: 6223211
Abstract: The problems of latency, flow control and data loss, and data movement within a client system memory are solved in a distributed multimedia system so as to enable real-time transmission of broadcast quality media data over the network. Latency is reduced by an estimation by the server of client needs. Data loss is prevented and flow control is provided by permitting the server to send only as much information as the network interface can reliably receive. Data movement is minimized by copying data directly from the network interface to memory in a display processor or audio processor.

  • Patent number: 6216192
Abstract: A system and method to permit access requests from a mezzanine bus through different bridges to perform in similar ways in disclosed. The access requests are serviced even if the bridges are configured differently, therefore allowing hardware and software management by allowing software to treat peripheral devices attached to different types of bridges as similar devices. Features of the peripheral devices, therefore, can be more effectively and more fully accessed by evading limitations of the addressing mode for one or more of the bridges.

  • Patent number: 6195718
Abstract: A multiple docking system allows multiple dock units to be connected to the bus of a primary unit notebook computer. This is accomplished using multiple bridges between the primary bus of the primary unit and secondary buses in each of the dock units. Importantly, the system allows for hot docking or docking of the multiple dock units to the primary unit while the primary unit is operational. It accomplishes this, however, without the latency impact associated with buffers on the primary bus. Instead, a docking signal is generated to a bridge in first dock unit as the second dock unit is docked. This causes the bridge to complete bus transactions between the primary bus and the first dock unit's secondary bus. The bridge also generates a float request signal to the primary unit and then floats the secondary bus only after receiving a float grant signal back.

  • Patent number: 6151218
Abstract: A docking system, including a portable computer and a docking unit, operates by latching the portable computer to the docking unit. A docking bay arrangement is used so that the portable computer's keyboard is accessible and usable by the user. A latch control system, which is controlled from the portable computer, provides security by preventing removal of the portable computer from the docking unit by unauthorized persons. This prevents theft, since the docking unit in turn is secured to the work area by a cable system.
