  • Publication number: 20090106059
Abstract: Providing for generating an executive report of business or personal activity is described herein. By way of example, such executive report can identify a change and related cause with respect to a prior report. As a particular example, an inference engine can receive an activity report and reference prior reports to identify the change and related cause. A set of results containing such information can be provided to a synthesis component that can include and highlight such information in the executive report. In addition, additional sources of data can be referenced in order to include and/or customize the report to a particular individual, organization, culture, or the like. As described, aspects of the subject innovation can provide an executive report highlighting important aspects of data and tailoring those aspects to interests of one or more users.

  • Patent number: 7506242
Abstract: An architecture integrates spreadsheet functionality into tables commonly used in word processing programs and HTML documents. The architecture presents a table user interface (UI) that resembles a table when not being edited and adds spreadsheet elements to the table when being edited. Underlying the table UI, the architecture separates data handling functions from presentation functions. The architecture includes a table appearance manager to manage how the table appears in a document including such characteristics as table resizing, selection, cut, copy, paste, split, merge, table formatting and so on. The architecture also has a spreadsheet functionality manager to manage the spreadsheet functions for the table, such as recalculation, formula handling, sorting, referencing, and the like.

  • Publication number: 20090006967
Abstract: Copying and pasting information from one application to another allows identical information to be present in multiple locations. Pasted information can be updated based on changes to the source of the pasted information. With updating pasted information, the information can remain identical in both locations even if a change takes place after the paste.

  • Publication number: 20090006082
Abstract: Providing for summarization and analysis of audio content is described herein. By way of example, an oral conversation can be analyzed, such that points of interest within the oral conversation can be identified and file locations related to such points of interest can be marked. Points of interest can be inferred based on a level of energy, e.g., excitement, pitch, tone, pace, or the like, associated with one or more speakers. Alternatively, or in addition, speaker and/or reviewer activity can form the basis for identifying points of interest within the conversation. Moreover, a compilation of the identified points of interest and portions of the original oral conversation related thereto can be assembled. As described herein, audio content can be succinctly summarized with respect to inferred and/or indicated points of interest, to facilitate an efficient and pertinent review of such content.

  • Patent number: 7346848
Abstract: A user interface (UI) in the form of a single navigable window enables a user to navigate to and between multiple different functionalities that are provided by a single application program. Novel use is made of a navigation model that manages the user's navigation activities to and between the different functionalities. Navigation instrumentalities enable the user to navigate among the different functionalities and include links to each of the different functionalities as well as browser-like navigation buttons. Context-sensitive command sets can also be provided along with the single navigable window. The context sensitive command sets include commands that automatically change as the user's computing context changes, e.g. as the user moves from functionality to functionality. The single application can be defined as a software platform that is extensible to receive and incorporate different functionalities.

  • Patent number: 7114128
Abstract: An object-oriented framework comprises system services, objects, and integration interfaces which unify retrieval and browsing of data among multiple different application programs, document formats, and local and remote data storage sites. The framework provides a hyperlink object which encapsulates general hyperlink navigation functions. The hyperlink object has a moniker which references a hyperlink's target, and a location string which designates a location in the target. The hyperlink object uses the moniker to retrieve the target as an object in the framework, and causes the object to display a view of the target at the location. The framework also provides a browse context object which maintains a navigation stack of navigated hyperlink targets, and allows passing of window and navigation tool bar position information to a frame in which the target is displayed to effect the appearance of window reuse when navigating between frames.

  • Patent number: 6590171
Abstract: A machine control (10) for controlling machinery, is disabled unless the hand (H) of a person grasps a handgrip (14) of the control, and thereby increases the capacitance at each of two electrodes (52, 54) lying within the handgrip surface and spaced about the handgrip axis (56). The handgrip is formed on a handle of a joystick (20) that can pivot about two perpendicular horizontal axes (22, 24). The joystick has a lower end (122) that lies in a cavity (120) where the joystick is pivotally mounted, the joystick has an upper end (121) forming a handle, and the joystick has a middle portion (124) that projects through an upper end of the cavity that lies within an aperture (114) of a housing top wall (112). A plurality of joystick detents (141-144) are mounted on the joystick middle portion, and a plurality of housing detents (151-154) are mounted on the housing to each engage a joystick detent.

  • Patent number: 6507858
Abstract: Ordered binder document sections having different file formats stored within a binder file. The binder file maintains the order of binder document sections in an index structure. The binder document sections can be removed from the binder file and stored as external files, while their order in the binder document is retained. The index structure is updated when additional binder document sections are added to the binder file. Also, the index structure may be altered so as to change the order of binder document sections in the binder document, without altering the memory locations in which the binder document sections are stored.

  • Patent number: 6470363
Abstract: Ordered binder document sections having different file formats stored within a binder file. The binder file maintains the order of binder document sections and the native file format of each section. The ordered sections can be viewed and edited through a viewport of a frame displayed by a binder program module. The binder program module can also dispatch the underlying application program modules that created each binder document section to spell check and grammar check the binder document sections as a single data processing task.

  • Patent number: 6393441
Abstract: Ordered binder document sections having different file formats stored within a binder file. The binder file maintains the order of binder document sections and the native file format of each section. The binder program module can dispatch the underlying application program modules that created each binder document section to print the binder document sections as a single uninterrupted print job. In this manner, selected sections of a binder document can be printed as a single consecutively printed document without having other print jobs interrupting or intervening between printed sections of the binder document.

  • Patent number: RE37431
Abstract: An intelligent help system which processes information specific to a user and a system state is described. The system incorporates a monitoring device to determine which events to store as data in an historical queue. These data, as well as non-historical data (e.g. system state), are stored in a knowledge base. An inference engine tests rules against the knowledge base data, thereby providing a help tag. A display engine links the help tag with an appropriate solution tag to provide help text for display.
