Patent number: 11916430Abstract: A disclosed information handling system is coupled to a power adapter that is coupled to an AC line power source. The system includes an embedded controller storing instructions executable to determine that a trigger condition for limiting electrical power drawn by the system from the power adapter is met and, in response to the determination and in accordance with a low power operating mode, to limit electrical power drawn from the power adapter by the system to an amount less than or equal to the lesser of a power rating of the power adapter and a capacity of the AC line power source to supply electrical power. Limiting the electrical power drawn from the power adapter may include limiting the electrical power consumed by operation of the system or limiting a rate at which an internal battery of the system is charged by electrical power supplied by the power adapter.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 2021Date of Patent: February 27, 2024Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Andrew Thomas Sultenfuss, Richard Christopher Thompson, Mohammed K. Patent number: 10162393Abstract: As may be implemented in accordance with one or more embodiments, an electrical connector such as a low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) connector is sealed to an opening in a base deck having bottom and/or side walls that define a cavity. A mechanical component is coupled to balance forces applied to opposing surfaces of the electrical connector, which can mitigate the application of high forces to connector pins and/or to the connector itself. Further, this balancing may be implemented to maintain a controlled bias force against the connector. The electrical connector may, for example, be hermetically sealed to the opening by a seal such as a gasket, epoxy or other material, which may be included in the electrical connector.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 2016Date of Patent: December 25, 2018Assignee: Seagate Technology LLCInventors: Tave Joseph Fruge, Frank William Bernett, John Francis Fletcher, Richard K. Publication number: 20120022516Abstract: An energy source of a thermal tissue operating system performs self-tests using simulation heating elements and jaw heating elements in tissue-grasping jaws of a handpiece. Power is supplied to the simulation heating elements and verified, without necessitating connection of a handpiece. Power is also delivered and verified to each of the two jaw heating elements when the handpiece is connected. Voltage and current are measured by peak hold detectors, and the peak hold detectors are tested to verify correct operation. All tests may be combined in a power on self-test (POST).Type: ApplicationFiled: July 23, 2010Publication date: January 26, 2012Inventors: Brian C. Stuebe, Richard K. Thompson

Patent number: 5801901Abstract: Apparatus for clamping a plurality of axially spaced, rotatable elements such as a stack of actuator arms or magnetic storage discs in a disc drive. The rotatable elements are coupled to respective housings for rotation at a respective radius about associated, stationary shafts by bearing assemblies. As used in an actuator assembly, an actuator shaft bearing housing is inserted into an opening in each of the actuator arms and a clamp fastener exerts a clamping force on the actuator arms so as to secure the actuator arms relative to the actuator shaft bearing housing. The clamp fastener comprises a clamp fastener cylinder with an exterior surface which is fixably attached to a corresponding interior surface of the actuator shaft bearing housing. The clamping force is exerted by a clamp disc protruding in a radial direction from the clamp fastener cylinder, beyond the radius of the actuator shaft bearing housing.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1996Date of Patent: September 1, 1998Assignee: Seagate Technology, Inc.Inventors: William J. Patent number: 5436566Abstract: A current sensing device enables sensing the current being delivered from a source to a load at a medical implement connected to the distal end of a primary conductor connected between the source and the load in situations wherein distributed capacitance between the primary conductor and a return path to the source prevents a measurement of current at the source end of the primary conductor from being an accurate measurement of the delivered current. The current sensing device includes a reference conductor which is located beside and is preferably twisted together with the primary conductor along the length thereof and which is connected to the medical implement load through a resistor at the load of a value such as to effectively electrically isolate the reference conductor from the load.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1993Date of Patent: July 25, 1995Assignee: Conmed CorporationInventors: Richard K. Patent number: 5432459Abstract: A current sensing device enables sensing the current being delivered from a source to a load at a medical implement connected to the distal end of a primary conductor connected between the source and the load in situations wherein distributed capacitance between the primary conductor and a return path to the source prevents a measurement of current at the source end of the primary conductor from being an accurate measurement of the delivered current. The current sensing device comprises a reference conductor which is located beside and twisted together with the primary conductor along the length thereof but which terminates short of, and is not connected to, the medical implement load, and a subtractor for subtracting the current flowing through the reference conductor from the total load current flowing to the medical implement so as to offset the effect of the distributed capacitance and to thereby produce a current measurement corresponding to the delivered current.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1993Date of Patent: July 11, 1995Assignee: Conmed CorporationInventors: Richard K. Patent number: 4961739Abstract: A waveform generator for electrosurgical apparatus disclosed includes a MxNxP storage device and a parallel to series conversion device. For the storage device, M is the maximum number of different waveforms being stored, N equals the number of bits being output from the storage device at a time and P is the maximum number of N bits that can be stored for each waveform. An address counter selects the next N bits of the waveform and these N bits loaded from the storage device into the conversion device and output in a sequential or series output signal to drive the RF power amplifier of electrosurgical apparatus. The output signal has a bit rate N times faster than the storage device is accessed.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 1988Date of Patent: October 9, 1990Assignee: Aspen Labatories, Inc.Inventor: Richard K. Patent number: 4192062Abstract: A floor plate assembly (11), for terminating flat flexible cables (22,22) at two bracket members (14,14) on the plate, is disclosed. The floor plate has adequate area to assure firm adhesive bonding to a floor (73), with flat flexible cables being laid over the plate. Protective flanges (29,29) are provided on a pair of complementary, temporary cover sections (26,26) and an optionally pivotable bracket member (44) to protect substantial lengths of cable from accidental cutting during carpet-laying operations. The plate and a permanent housing (72) cooperate to clamp the carpet (74) about the bracket members, without creating undue stresses on an adhesive bond between the plate and the floor during threaded attachment of the housing to the bracket.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 1978Date of Patent: March 11, 1980Assignees: Western Electric Company, Inc., Bell Telephone Laboratories, IncorporatedInventors: John W.
