    Abstract: The present invention is a combustion chamber for an incinerator that has a chamber with a plurality of refractory walls and an opening for the delivery of materials into the chamber. A hearth is contained within the chamber. The hearth has a surface for the receipt of these materials and is positioned generally adjacent to the opening. An oscillator is connected to the hearth for causing the hearth to oscillate within the chamber. An air plenum is arranged beneath the hearth. The hearth has a first and second flange extending upwardly along each side of the hearth. A third flange extends upwardly at the end of the hearth adjacent to the chamber opening. The hearth has a plurality of air passageways extending therethrough and communicating with the air plenum. A collection ridge is formed about one edge of the hearth. A suitable heat exchange fluid circulating system is provided within the hearth so as to pass a fluid and heat exchange relationship with the hearth.

    Abstract: The lamp ballasting apparatus disclosed herein is of the high-frequency switching type which operates from a DC supply and effects pulse-width modulation to control the level of energization of the lamp. A common mode choke interposed between the lamp and the modulating means provides a series inductance opposing rapid common mode changes in the currents flowing through the lamp leads. A fast semiconductor switch is interposed in the lamp circuit. A current transformer inductively linked to the lamp leads generates a control signal having an amplitude which is a function of the difference of the current flowing in the leads and this control signal operates the switch when the current difference rises above a preselected level indicating an arcing condition.

    Abstract: In the ion nitriding power supply disclosed herein, power to the discharge chamber is normally current-regulated by a pulse-width modulated current switching device effectively in series with a switching inverter which energizes the chamber, instantaneous current variations being smoothed by a series inductance which, together with the chamber, is shunted by a freewheeling diode. Incipient arcing is quickly extinguished by semiconductor switching devices incorporated in the inverter which, when energized simultaneously, shunt the chamber, instantaneous current limiting being provided by the series inductance. The shunt switching devices are triggered when the voltage across the discharge drops below a level indicative of the formation of an arc.

    Abstract: In the alignment system disclosed, herein a raster scanned video signal representing a selected portion of the wafer surface is analyzed for diagonal reference lines or features on the surface of the wafer utilizing a swept gating technique which extracts desired image features from an obscuring or noisy background. A given point on the wafer surface is determined by locating two oppositely-inclined diagonal features, the point being defined by their intersection. These two features are searched for simultaneously and independently, minimizing the search time.
