  • Publication number: 20240207878
Abstract: For determining distance between a spray gun (140) for applying a coating fluid to a surface, a distance sensor (100) may be placed on the spray gun (140). The sensor will provide values related to distance between the spray gun (140) and the surface, but also values related to distance between the spray gun (140) and aerosol particles. From all these values, the distance between the spray gun (140) and the surface is estimated by checking whether values received are valid for the distance to the surface by means of a distance tolerance criterion. The distance tolerance criterion may be based on previous values. Values meeting the criterion in a set are used for providing an estimate of the distance to the surface. for example by providing a median or average.

  • Publication number: 20240191988
Abstract: By measuring a position of a spray gun relative to a physical surface to coat, using data on technical characteristics of the spray gun, like a spray cone the spray gun may produce and data on a coating fluid used, characteristics of a coating layer thus physically deposited may be reconstructed. With data being recording during the spray job, this is faster and more accurate than measuring layer thickness at various locations, either pre-determined or randomly. By determining flow characteristics in a spray cone and position of the spray cone relative to the surface over time and using a model of the spray cone, deposition of the layer of coating may be determined and the final layer, cured or uncured, may be reconstructed, including thickness.

  • Publication number: 20230211366
Abstract: A sensor kit is provided to be used with a spray gun. The sensor kit may acquire relevant data while the spray gun is being used, and provide feedback to the user of the spray gun on particular parameters of the spray job such that the user in real-time can adjust his method of spraying. Furthermore, the feedback may be adjusted for different types of coatings using pre-determined data related to a specific coating. Even further, the obtained data during spraying may be sent to a remote server where data may be collected of a plurality of spray jobs using a particular type of coating. Using the obtained data during spraying, it may be possible to reconstruct what the applied coating looks like, and/or what the surface looked like on which the coating has been applied.
